Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Good morming! Thanks for the coffee @BY Bob
Nope, I don't work at all :p
That explains it! If I didn't have chickens, i might be up all night and sleep all day too. 😳 I have always been a night owl. But, I like to be out to see chickens at dawn, so I try to make myself go to sleep at a decent hour. It doesn't usually work so I'm just living in a state of sleep deprivation.

My sleep has gotten really messed up again, I got up at 8 PM yesterday. I think I'll try to stay up longer today, so I can wake up at a time tomorrow that's more compatible with being productive.
I hope you can get back to a more normal sleep pattern!

My sleep issues have interfered with my ability to do anything on a regular basis. It's been an issue for a long time, and it got bad after Elementary school. I only managed to attend 12 days in all of 7th and 8th grade, and most of those days I was awake all the previous night before.

It was diagnosed as delayed sleep phase syndrome, so a circadian rhythm issue, but that diagnosis doesn't really specify the severity. The disorder is fairly common in younger people, they will diagnose it if your circadian rhythm is delayed by just two hours or more. Mine can be delayed by 8-12 hours sometimes, which is a lot worse than if it were delayed by 2-3 hours.

I had to look that up. Are you on a treatment for that? Can you take sleeping pills? I've tried melatonin with some results sometimes. My problem is not the same though. I just enjoy the extraordinary quietness and freedom of the late night hours. :D I hate to give them up, but I always pay in the morning.

I have been taking the melatonin, the sleep doctor said that I should take a low dosage several hours before I go to sleep. I can maintain my sleep for a while, but it will go back after a while. A study showed that 90% of people with the sleep disorder relapse to their old sleeping pattern within a year :( If too high of a dosage of the melatonin is used, I don't think the brain will produce its own melatonin normally. I wish I could just get a stronger sedative, but I don't think they'll prescribe one, since I'm young and have a very low body mass index.

Someone recently told me we should only take 1 mg of melatonin. And perhaps what I'm missing is the "several hours before" instruction. I usually just take it two hours before. But, I don't take it every night, only when I am feeling too lethargic from lack of sleep. Seriously, 6 hours is a good night's sleep for me.

They probably wouldn't prescribe anything too strong. I've never even asked because the thought of a real drug to put me to sleep i terrifying to me. What happens to me is, after a long period of not sleeping well, I will suddenly sleep for like 8 hours. I always feel so great when I do!
