Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Good morning, Debby! Thanks for the coffee. Just up to take a cough drop actually, and then turn over and go back to sleep. Should have been wearing a mask when I was spraying coops and chickens.

A bug free day would be wonderful! But, today I will at least check Surly girl and Lucy 2 over. They are completely separate from the others, so I doubt they have anything on them, but I have to know for sure.
What do you use to treat your birds? We have been seeing a lot of gnats in the yard and around a couple of the birds. Just want to be prepared in case I see anything else.

I use Pyrethrin or Permethrin in the coop, and I have Davis Pure Planet Poultry Spray for the chickens. Since I have not had them before, I cannot guarantee how they work. I'll let you know.

Now that you mention gnats, what I saw on Pippi could have been that and not a mite. I only saw one.

And wow did the new coop and shelter help with this project last night! It was raining cats and dogs, but we all stayed dry as we took them out, one at a time, to look them over and spray them.

Imagine the squabbles that would have ensued if all those cats and dogs had been raining right down on us. :lau

Good Sunday Morning from my peeps to yours!

It's a challenge. So far, only have seen the two bugs on Mad and he lives separately. He will no longer free range with the others. In a couple hours when they go into their coop we'll go out and check the others. I did check one and saw nothing. Did I say that already? LOL think I'm repeating myself now.

It is just terrifying to find a bug on a bird!!! :barnie
Yeah, it sucks the life out of them.

Good morning all. Woke up to a incy full of fuzz balls this morning. I couldn't quite get a count because they wouldn't sit still but I would guess at least 25. That's out of 37 and today is only day 20. Will get pics this afternoon when I move them to the brooder. :celebrate :ya

Wow! So fun!! What breed? I think I missed that

Well, friends, the unthinkable has happened. DH picked up Mad Hatter and saw a lice on him. We have been watching him because I saw a wild bird flying into his coop to eat his food. I thought that would be bad news and it is.

He lives in his own coop and run but he free ranges with the others during the day, so, you got it...we have to treat everyone. :barnie

As we were treating him we didn't see any other signs of lice, so I'm hoping we have nipped it in the bud, but we will retreat in a week regardless.

Tonight, after they all go in the coop, we will pick up and treat all the hens and Pippi. I did pick up Girlie Girl and she shows no signs of lice at all, but all will be treated just in case.

Grrr... I feed the wild birds 300' away from the coops just to keep them away from them, but at least one found the mother load of quality food. :rant

Well, I just had to complain a little. We have never dealt with this before.

I'm so sorry, Val! Glad you caught it right away!
