Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Hi everyone! I just found this thread. I’ve been reading most of it all day and wanted to join in if that’s ok! I love my chickie babies and I’m addicted to hatching. I have a medium size flock and can just sit out and watch them all day. Can’t wait to get to know everyone!

Hi! You are more than welcome here. Glad you joined!

Good morning, all! Finally getting caught up on the chats

It's been super busy over here. We got most of the land seeded over the weekend. I see grass already starting to pop up :ya

Went on a nice hike yesterday. 80 degrees (F) with a slight breeze, it was heavenly. The wildflowers are starting to show again, which is by far one my most favorite things about spring.

Have a lovely day!!

did you candle or anything while she was sitting. My girl has been sitting for just over 2 weeks and I haven't bothered her at all. She has a pen all to herself so she doesn't get trampled and the chicks (if any) will be safe. But I've just been letting her do her thing. Is that how you did it?
Yes, that's how I do it. I never candle eggs under a broody.

Some people candle and take over when a chick is struggling. I trust the mama hen.

That's what I was thinking. Just let nature take it's course. Hopefully I'll have some cute silky babies soon.

The last time I had a broody, 3 out of 5 eggs hatched. This time only 1. But, I would still rather leave it to them. My chickens are not "lap chickens". They are sweet and adorable, but I don't handle them unless I have to. They are not at all interested in having me "check out" their babies.

In fact, Surly Girl was very upset at me the first day she had Lucy 2 out, and at the end of the day couldn't get her back in. So I picked her up to put her in and Surly nearly had a heart attack. I had to pick her up and put her in also. She has since been able to do it herself. The poor girl would have stayed out all night keeping her chick warm, while all the time it was raining on her.
