Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Oops...not awake yet. Thanks for the coffee, Debby!

I've been out to let chickens out and give them treats, feed the shop cats, squirrels and birds....time for a little coffee and breakfast for me. :D

Chickie made the coffee this morning (and did a good job of it too) :)

Is there a safe rooster/hen ratio out there. I have 6 silky roosters and 7 silky hens plus 2 bantam cochin hens, 2 LF Faverolles and 2 LF polish. I am aiming to put them all together and was just wondering how the boys would get along. Most of the time my silky roos are pretty mellow and they do free range some . Does this sound like it would work to you? I just don't want any of them to get hurt.

I'm not sure about the correct ratio. I have two full sized cockerels and 9 full sized hens. I find I can free range them together because one cockerel keeps the other one in check, but that only came after one good fight to establish leadership. I don't put them in the same coop at night. That might be too close of quarters.

That's just the way I'm handling it, and I'm very new to roosters.

That seems like a lot of boys, but I think it depends more on the temperament of the boys rather than a strict ratio. If they start fighting, would you be able to keep a rooster flock (away from any girls)?

cockelerel
Do not have a photo of Red I guess they fight pretty hard so would rather weight till Smudge is full grown
