Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

How many chickens do you have altogether? You must have a big operation going there. Do you sell the eggs?
I have 24 birds that are almost a year old. The rest are chicks from these guys and some barnyard mix from my neighbor. I only have 4 that lay big enough eggs to eat and we do eat some but I also give them to family and friends. Now once all my chicks grow out I will probably sell eggs again . I’m just starting to rebuild my flock. At one time I had over 100 birds but when I started working full time I had to get rid of most and the rest were taken by predators. I’ve learned a lot and now try to make my pens like Fort Knox.

Well, friends, the unthinkable has happened. DH picked up Mad Hatter and saw a lice on him. We have been watching him because I saw a wild bird flying into his coop to eat his food. I thought that would be bad news and it is.

He lives in his own coop and run but he free ranges with the others during the day, so, you got it...we have to treat everyone. :barnie

As we were treating him we didn't see any other signs of lice, so I'm hoping we have nipped it in the bud, but we will retreat in a week regardless.

Tonight, after they all go in the coop, we will pick up and treat all the hens and Pippi. I did pick up Girlie Girl and she shows no signs of lice at all, but all will be treated just in case.

Grrr... I feed the wild birds 300' away from the coops just to keep them away from them, but at least one found the mother load of quality food. :rant

Well, I just had to complain a little. We have never dealt with this before.

Sorry to hear that Val! Ugh, just mention of lice makes me itchy.
