Curious...how do you call your chickens to you?

"Chook-chook-chook-eee!" That means Treat Time around here. Sometimes they trot over when I open the door or go to dig in the garden, but the chook-eee call gets them moving at a flittery run every time. Develop your own call and the girls will learn it fast enough. They pay pretty close attention to anyone bearing treats on a regular basis.

same here. If they don't hear the door -they always hear the spoon scraping the bowl lol. My chickens were trained with table scraps, especially last summer when I canned lots of peaches and tomatoes...their faves. lol

Mine usually come running as soon as any door from the house is opened. But if I want to call them after I've been outside a while and they've wandered off to do chickeny things, I do have a call all the senior hens (and Carl) know:

"Chickens! I've got chickens!"

That comes from my early days when I was SO excited to have chickens it was a routine morning event to step onto the porch and make that announcement. Kinda like, "I've got mail!"

Nowadays, the chickens are already THERE on the porch waiting for me. But if I have to call 'em (or just want to), I'll make that announcement. For months, I am sure my neighbors would think, "yes, we know already - you have chickens."

That's pretty much how it is here. If the goats & the zebu are all around front I yell "here goat" and they ALL come running. If the chickens make it all the way around front I have to go out that way & they get the "here chickie, chickie" while I'm throwing treats.
