Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Yes, the movie just opened Friday- we saw it today. Octavia is great. I saw a recent interview with her (and Chris Evans). She is just so funny they asked her if she would ever appear in one of the "Captain America," movies. She said she would never wear one of those spandex costumes with a cape, and just cracked up. She wouldn't mind playing a supervisor though.

Was surprised to see "Gifted," a new movie that Rotten Tomatoes and the major reviewers failed to take notice of. Figured it would be a true loser even though Octavia Spencer and Chris Evans were in it. What a shock to discover it was a very, very good movie, that made me tear up. My brother and I both rated it 4 stars out of 4. Second time in 2 weeks that has happened. Who knew? All the actors were superb - even though I didn't know who half of them were. No explosions, no murders,, no zombies, or special effects - nothing but a genuinely GOOD movie.

The Princess and I just got home from seeing this movie. I agree with deedee 100 %. 4 stars for great entertainment.

LOL...I heard about that interview. I'm so behind in watching movies. I still want to see that movie she was in...can't recall the name...about the women behind the scenes at NASA that did all those calculations. (Not the best description, I realize.

My brother, sister and I all saw "Hidden Figures" and loved it! The first thing that people say after they see it is "WHO KNEW?" the government made sure we didn't know women had a major role especially women of color. Makes ME wonder what else was a cover-up

I watched some movies recently but not new movies.

One is called "The Sapphires". It's about these young aboriginal women who go off to Vietnam during the war to entertain the soldiers. I enjoyed it. It stars Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy and Miranda Tapsell and another girl I don't know (Deborah Mailman is very well known over here, she's been in lots of things, Miranda Tapsell was in a tv series called "Love Child" about a home for unwed mothers in the 1960s). Chris O'Dowd (irish actor) plays their manager. Jessica Mauboy is a terrific singer, she went on one of those talent singing shows (Australian Idol? one of those shows) when she was 16 and has gone on to have hit records and appear on tv and in movies. She's a really nice girl (I call her a girl because I'm old) and she's very talented, she'll go on to bigger and better things, for sure. Lots of good songs in it, a bit of history as to how aborigines were treated in the 50s/60s (very lightly handled, but it was said), bit of action, bit of romance. Good movie. It did very well over here, I don't know whether it was released overseas.

I also watched "Hairspray" which I was surprised to like. Very jolly, lots of dancing about and colour, like an old MGM musical. Good cast, good singers, excellent dancing (Adam Shankman did the choreography, he used to be on that Dancing show with that Lythgoe bloke), had a bit of a positive message for all the teenagers who feel like outsiders. I thought it was enjoyable.

I wanted to see "Hidden Figures", but I'll end up getting the DVD. I'll also want to see that Gifted after your reviews. I love finding out about "hidden gems" that otherwise you don't know about.

Star Wars: Rogue One
Out of the plastic but yet to watch. I have to admit, since Jar Jar Binks I have had some issues with George Lucas since he redid the original trilogy , and now that Disney has taken over I have become completely disgusted, yet I still purchase the movie as an O.G. Fan should imo.
I watched The Force Awakens or whatever it was once and have never gone back. Han murdered by his own Son? What in the H? Boba Fett survives the Sarlac Monster and did Han in. Thanks for ruining that for me Disney, I despise you. And what on Earth happened to Luke in that next to last movie?? He is a hermit on a snowy mountain now??? George Lucas made a twitter comment that was politically uncorrect but was quickly deleted. I have to agree with his comment. Now I hear in the trailer for the upcoming 2nd movie of the latest trilogy that Luke wants to disband the Order. Disney......as soon as my birds start laying eggs I will personally ship daily to each member of your executive board one egg to suck on all day, every day, for what you have done to history for life. Free of charge, though tips are welcome.
