Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I guess I overlooked mentioning we saw "The Hitman's Bodyguard", with Samuel Jackson and Ryan Reynolds. It was fast paced, fun & explosive. Didn't really expect to like it but brother & I sure did. We both ranked it 3.5 out of 4 stars. Sam & Ryan really had chemistry going and that always makes a movie enjoyable to me.

My one caveat is the movie was MUCH too loud, had I known I would have worn ear plugs to tame it down. In all fairness though, even the trailers and were much too loud.

We saw "Dark Tower," this morning. Very empty theatre- don't know why. Brother and I loved it.
It's going off this week, so I just booked for it and went this morning. I loved it. Really suspenseful story, good cast, good acting (I liked the main boy, his mum and his friend. The actor stepdad was also good, but I hated his character so I'm not saying I liked him :D McConaghy certainly plays a 'baddie' extremely well, he was scary awful) and fabulous special effects/action/fighting "stuff". I wasn't expecting much, but I really enjoyed it. (I've never read the books, so wasn't comparing it to anything.)

I'm going to see that Valerian thousand somethings city tomorrow morning, that's going off this week as well.

Potato Chip that movie and the Luther series has brought about quite an Idris Elba
addiction. My brother is half way thru the series. He doesn't marathon like I do, I just finished it for the second time. My son watched it and said Idris isn't a good actor. WHAT?? No accounting for taste but, I love my son despite that remark.

Meanwhile my brother & I have been 'googling' Idris, to find more of his movies. Even checked out 'Ruth Wilson', who plays Alice Morgan. BTW my son thinks she is homely.
I think he just wants to set me off (again)

She has an interesting face, I think. She's a bit like Anna Maxwell Martin - not conventionally gorgeous, but very attractive because of their persona/abilities.

I don't know whether Idris is that great an actor, but he has "screen presence". Whatever he's doing, you watch. There may be "better actors", but they don't have that "spark". Also, I was thinking when I was watching Dark Tower, he can be all rough and ready/stubbly/looks like he just crawled out of bed at 3pm in the afternoon, or he can look all "movie star" handsome/scrubbed up.

All I know is that I accept the character he's playing, I don't think oh, there's Idris. That to me is a good (enough) actor.

They are having a movie festival of films from studio ghibli. I went to see 2 movies last Sunday, Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro. Really good movies, the artwork is worth watching just for itself. So beautiful. Really good stories as well.

I just watched one on dvd called Boychoir. It's about this young kid who joins the American Boys Choir. Stars Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates, Eddie Izzard, Kevin McHale as the teachers at the choir school and unknown (to me, anyway) young actors as the choirboys.

I enjoyed it, good story, great cast. (lots of singing so if you don't like choral music it might not be for you, but I reckon you could still like it, even if it's not your "thing")

The newest movies I've seen lately have been Alien: Covenant and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 both of which were awesome. Slightly disappointed with some of the plot points in both, but good movies either way.

I'm pretty excited to see Flatliners and Blade Runner 2049 when they come out on DVD (not sure if BR will have the same "feel")--I'm not going to our local theater however as my friend's daughter went there and brought back some head lice!

Thanks Peaches. You know I have often worried about catching "head lice," at the movies. I try never to lean back in the seat. Just like when I am shopping, if a hat has hair etc. in it, I will NOT try it on.:sick

I was surprised to find DVD's- actually some good ones, at the Dollar Store. I bought one to try out called "Enough Said," comedy with the late James Gandolfini( from the Sopranos ) and Julia-Louis-Drefus (from Seinfeld). I had heard it was very good but, never seemed to get to see it.
Hope it doesn't ruin my player. I am always suspect of really cheap products
