Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

We usually don't make it to the movies that often as my son is Autistic and doesn't enjoy the crowds. He does make an exception though anytime an Avenger movie (or one of the Avenger character's movies) comes out. Loving this thread as it gives me a great idea of what to keep an eye out for when they hit redbox.

Today we saw "This is Where I Leave You." Now understand that neither Tina Fey or Jayne Fonda make my favorite actor list. The movie was OK - not great. Maybe a 2.5 on our 4 scale. It does make any dysfunctional family seem more normal by comparison. There were some good laughs but too many awkward scenes for me.

Sour I've only seen the trailers but, the part with Jason Bateman telling Jane Fonda to cover up her girls, seemed very awkward to me. I do NOT care for her either.

I'll have to put that on my watchlist. I like Tina Fey, 30 Rock was fun, and though I'm not a fan of Fonda, she is great on the Newsroom. I really liked Bateman on Arrested Development too. And there seem to be other actors I like in it too. Although often when you throw together many of the actors you like in a movie, it all seems to fall apart. But I think I want to see that one.

The imdb score of Gone Girl makes it look quite interesting, but we'll see once it's been in theaters for a while. I do like Ben Affleck usually, although mostly in Kevin Smith movies.

I've also have Judge on my list (the two Roberts, Downy & Duval) opening Oct.10. So far reviewers seem to think they give great performances in a poor movie. Maybe when real people get to submit their reviews it will come out as a GOOD movie.

My brother and I saw "Gone Girl," this afternoon. Where to begin. It's not your ordinary, everyday domestic quarrel movie. Actors are very good, the movie is long but, keeps you involved. If you have no stomach for perversion and buckets of blood - don't bother to watch this one. Otherwise it keeps you guessing ,I was wrong with every guess, and the plot has many twists and turns. In a way it reminded me somewhat of my favorite of last year,"Prisoners."
In that movie, the violence was somewhat justified by the crime. In "Gone Girl," one character just seems to bring it on as a habit. My brother gave it 3 stars, I would too even though the ending was totally unbelievable. I hope they don't expect to rip a sequel out of this one.

Sour, I think it is one of those "watch it, if you dare movies." A weird blend of Psycho, Fatal Attraction, & maybe History of Violence. I would love to hear your thoughts on this movie but, please don't see it just for my account.
