Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Great performance by Allison Janney as the mother.
She's got the golden globe and the screen actor's guild awards for it, hasn't she, and an oscar nomination? I liked her in the West Wing, it's good to see her getting good movie roles.
Margot got nominated too. I haven't seen the movie and she's got tough competition so I don't think she'll get it, but it's a feather in her cap, she's doing so well in Hollywood after coming from "neighbours" (a nightly soap opera here in Oz)

I'm hoping "The Shape of Water ," will win. Think my brother said it has 13 nominations.
I think it'll get Best Picture (I haven't even seen it yet, I just think it will win). I hope Sally Hawkins wins, but she's got serious competition in her category. Guillermo del Toro is probably going to get best director. It'll win some of them, I hope. Even if it doesn't, 13 nominations is an achievement in itself.

She's very pretty but she also seems to be a really nice girl, a likeable person. I haven't really seen her in anything by which I can judge how good of an actor she is (suicide squad doesn't really count), but her nomination would seem to suggest that she's good. I think she got good reviews in that other movie she was in, but I haven't seen that one either.

I watched The Edge of Seventeen. Great movie! Well done and well acted by everyone. I loved Woody Harrelson's role. Hailee Steinfeld was also amazing in True Grit.

Thank you Lucky Jack. Saw both versions of True Grit, my brother liked the John Wayne movie better. I liked the newer version. I thought Hailee Steinfeld was amazing too.

I haven't seen "Edge of Seventeen," but I think Woody Harrelson is a very good actor.
I think my favorite with him is "The Messenger."

Today we saw "I, Tonya". Great performance by Allison Janney as the mother. Surprisingly we enjoyed this movie. 3's from both of us. Almost makes you feel sorry for Tonya, but I have heard her interviewed recently. That negates my sympathy.
I hope it's ok if I hop on this thread. I had not been to a movie in 7 years (don't ask why! I guess life just got busy! hey, I got chickens, what can I say)...so my mother insisted we go. We saw "I, Tonya". I was pleasantly surprised! I had followed the story as an adult and remember the scandal when I was young...it was interesting to see it kind of sugar coated in the big screen. It sort of humorized domestic violence, which was odd. I thought the acting was pretty good, especially the mother and the friend (chubby guy who lived with his parents). Hopefully I will be seeing more than one movie every 7 years and can comment here more
