a link to a podcast with Melissa Norris and the owner of McMurray hatchery. He talks about the CC and how there’s only 5 breeders in the world who have the actual parent stock of what we know as the CC. Multiple generations of selective breeding for the parent stock
McMurray is the sponsor, so it sounds like they were trying to discourage the speaker from going down the road of line breeding the Jumbo Cornish Cross. He was emphasizing back yard breeders would need to maintain 10,000 birds to breed the Jumbo Cornish Cross which sounds like a cover up to protect their broiler business.

However, its true that the back yard breeder would need two pure parent lines to produce broiler hybrids, and it takes about 3 generations of daughter/brother back to father or mother to purify a blood line or new breed.

Hybrids like the Jumbo Cornish Cross are not considered pure blood lines because they don't breed true. However, their off springs could be turned into a pure blood line and used to create broiler hybrids.

A little off topic, but I'm currently experimenting on working on creating a breed of backyard meaty. Using EE/Brahma X Malay X Cornish Game X Naked Neck.

I think you need to include a breed that matures faster than other heritage breeds like Breese or New Hampshire.

In the Chicken of Tomorrow video where they had a contest across America to find the best meat bird, the winner was a cross between a red Cornish and White Plymouth Rock. I suspect they crossed a New Hampshire with a Standard Cornish Chicken and line bred that cross until it produced consistent red Cornish.
