Swimming pool suppliers sell it in 25lb bags.

It has to be safe (it's only calcium) as it goes into filters.

Around here it is about $1 per pound.

If there is a particular reason why Swimming Pool DE is unsuitable ... let me know please.

My box says *Contains Crystalline Silica - Do not breathe it in*.

So wear a mask if you are dusting with it.

Quote:How is it different? And is the difference significant.

After all, we are talking here about using DE as an insecticide. I'm still not sure why food grade is so important.

In the index FAQs section is a link or links to questions and answers about food grade DE. As I recall, you ONLY want to use food grade DE around chickens. The pool filter kind may very well kill them! I distinctly remember reading not to use it around poultry. Check it out. [IMG]

check out the Wolf Creek Ranch info on the difference between pool filter grade and food grade DE's.

    Jandfire,

There's a section on my food grade DE page called Where to find food grade DE.

    Hope this helps!
