So our flock is about 5 weeks old. And next week or so I will be moving them from the brooder to the coop. But now that I am a bit more educated on the chicken life I think I am gonna add more to my flock. Once these go out I’m probably gonna get at least 4 more. I would like to stay more of a pure breed “non hybrid “ with the new ones. Any suggestions on what breed I should look into. I am in Michigan so it does get cold. Looking for more layers but I can see myself wanting to breed before to long.

Thanks in advance for helping with the Chicaddict........

Black Australorps are awesome. Mine is super sweet, not to loud, friendly with people and lays about 5 eggs per week. They are very hardy as well.

I think I have two now. Still trying to figure that out. Not sure between Astralops or Wyandotte’s?

I say get a Welsummer, a Golden Cuckoo Maran, a Barnevelder, and a Dark Brahma just because I want all of those breeds and I am absolutely full up on chickens and can't possibly have more, so I'd like to live vicariously through someone, lol

You're only 5 weeks in,
you don't even know how many males you ended up with, correct?
This is it, the beginning of 'chicken math'.
Don't do it, man....really, just wait.
Fight the Fever.

Seriously, how big is your coop(in feet by feet) and how many do you have now??
Get thru your first winter.
Save any extra space for fresh layers next year.
