It has been quite a day on the Easter Hatch a long thread. A lot of new hatch addicts BYC'rs have joined the Hatch a long today. Contests are running and incubators are being tuned up. Some of us are figuring out how to fit all of the birds into our pens and some are making plans to expand and build new pens....

We are moving closer to set the set day for Chicken eggs. It is even closer to the set date for Ducks and Turkeys! Watch the dates!

Sally Sunshine posted a picture of a true Bruiser Spanish Chick! It was harassing other chicks and even managed to break some eggs!
Gentry1350 catches wild chickens! That would be the most fun ever!
Uphilljill asked how to manage brooder space! Arielle rotates them in and out to other pens. Flowere of Abba uses stackable totes!
MontannaDolphin asked about rainbow layers—they are a mixed flock that lays eggs in rainbow colors!
Carriebain is getting croad langshans from gracefulchickens.com. Guess What! This is a BYC Member, Chickengirl1304! Petrock is getting hatching eggs from her too.
We had our traditional discussion about set dates, what counts as the first day and etc. We are setting chicken eggs on the 29th. They will hatch over the Friday to Saturday time that we want them to hatch for most of us.

Roosting Robin did not have a Bator and needs coops built but has joined—A bator has been ordered. Hubbies to do list may be longer now….
Jbenson is fine tuning incubation—and location—going to get a new thermometer!
chickenFox posted a personal story about the importance of using a good thermometer. 4 degrees off! Mein gott! Jbenson had the same problem—4 degrees too high and cooked the eggs!
Roostereggs has chicks hatched on New Year’s Day that are just asking to become dinner! They are ripping up the Brooder!

Kismet asked for broody advice—moving to a new location. Sally Sunshine said to acclimate to a movable nest for a day and them move to the new location. Happy Chooks said to leave her be.
Chicken pickin has cranky cold chickens today! Post 1329.
Goat Babies—Both are nursing now. Airelle said to supplement any way.
PetRock reminded us that Pecking order plays a role with broodies. Lower pecking order Broodies get pushed around. Chicken Pickin says to separate broodies from the flock.
TeaChick lost some chicks last night—gotta get to work and school—will check in later!
Cynthia, really…Horstman Silver Penciled Rocks? I tried hatching eggs from Dick two years in a row. Not a single SPR! Nice Rhode Island Reds though.
We may be going for some kind of record with this hatch a long. No one knows what kind though….
