Are they blue or green? and I bet she'll wait till spring before going broody, but that's a sweet nest.

And actually you did her a service, she doesn't need to be exerting energy try to brood when winter is stressful enough by itself. Your a good mama duck.Today was shed clean out day. Syanne decided to sit on about 12 eggs. I cleaned up anyway and took em all, with the temp fluctations over the last week, no way those eggs were any good. Silly Pekin!

well I'm sorry I usually look to see where some one is posting from oh well hope you enjoy the nice hot days of summer. we're freezing. lol Some ducks just aren't cut out for motherhood. I have a few myself. Love to brood but when hatching started she tried to kill the ducklings, I managed to save one.Its actually summer here guys! But you are right about uselessly expanding energy, last year when Syanne sat she let everyone lay in the nest and never chucked any eggs out - she would sit on 50 if I let her. Varia my pekin cross was so much better, keeping a nice clean nest of 9 eggs and helpfully tossing out those she didnt like, but even she didnt manage ducklings.
Syanne is a real feather head, when she was sitting she would never let an egg go, sat on them in 40 degree heat but then abandoned them on cooler days. Not a good momma duck.
