i just read you submission and holy cow i loved it. Made me uncomfortable in a good way. Parasites (mostly fictional) are like one of this things a fear most and this was no exception even if it was just glitter.

Yet another amazing author joining this thread. My confidence in my abilities as a writer is dropping fast 😅 💀

~An Of Feathers And Flames Story~
TW: Abuse

Phoenix shrunk back from her mother's towering shape, nervously sparking.

"How much did you hear?" Flare hissed, the SolarWing's wing-blades sliding open with soft shink noises threateningly.

The little copper CloudWing's wings flared, and she shot off in a flurry of flames of feathers desperately. Flare snarled furiously, flames shooting through the vents along her neck as she lunged after Phoenix.

Phoenix quickly dodged her mother's snapping teeth, only to be engulfed in a ineffective burst of flame. Fire couldn't hurt either dragon, so Phoenix flapped away the flames, clearing the ground and flying away as fast and hard as possible.

She dove into the forest, knowing that Flare's larger size would make it harder for her to follow. Phoenix was careful to not touch any lichen or branches that were in her way, weaving and dodging through the trees.

She heard wind whistling on wings and looked up to see Flare's enraged, flaming shape fly overhead, wing blades clipping tree's upper branches and setting them alight.

"PHOENIX." her mother shrieked. Phoenix ignored her, flying faster and faster blindly.

She flew until she no longer knew where she was, and the darkness crept around her, lit by the fire from her feathers. She was sobbing, her body shaking. She wiped her arm across her eyes, the tears hissing as they evaporated, leaving salt crystals behind on her fine arm feathers.

Eventually she landed, shaking, crying. She felt like she couldn't breathe. What have I done??

She had run away. And now she was lost. Racking sobs shook her small frame, wings shuddering. She crouched, curling into herself, wrapping her wings close, becoming a small, fiery ball of feathers. The CloudWing hybrid fell into a fitfull sleep, plagued by dreams of tall, cruel SolarWings.

Wow sounds like my character and her mother
I guess mother dragons are not nurturers...
