Damaged caruncle on muscovy

Maybe molt is starting? although I don't see that on my Muscovy when they begin to molt not so ruffled up like that.
That's good to hear he isn't being mistreated.

I am wondering if it's painful or just so hard to preen with his bill messed up like it is?

He had looked normal about 2-3 days after his accident. He only started looking like this again lately. I can't say for sure he is not being mistreated. Either that, or a tussle with another animal.

He's still a little scruffy, but he still comes to the door for food, frequently, and guards the food from the mallards, especially when his mate is nearby. He doesn't seem to be different, personality-wise. I feed him from a cup, I don't think he can pick up cracked corn from the ground.
