Danged ole do good neighbor killed my chickens!

So sorry for your loss, I can empathize with you. I just recently lost 5 out of 6 pullets (14 weeks old) that we raised as chicks from day one. It's so hard to deal with this loss when you have had them as babies.

I'm still upset and it's been a week now...

Speaking from a legal standpoint...that was trespassing. Your property is private property, and unless they have your consent to be on your property..they are in violation of the law. Just speaking from the legal side.
Also if they caused damage..mind you it was your dogs..with their help, they are still responsible in part. But that's up to you how you would handle it, and also how your state laws are.

Myself personally...I would be so livid. I have had to deal with my neighbors dogs many times out here in the country..getting into our garden..busting our fences..and harassing my chickens and guineas. I can't free range my birds..and I had to get rid of my guineas...last two hawks got them.

The Sheriff told me next time we have trouble with the neighbors dogs...he said..SOS..*Shoot on Sight*. But its not the dogs fault that the owner is stupid and irrisponsible. I won't hurt the dog...but animal control is on my speed dial..and they can keep paying the fines to get their dogs back.

What kinds of chickens did you have?

Dont you think if the dogs were making noise in the garage, that the dogs chasing the chickens would have been even louder?? I've seen a few hens go down from some strays in our neighborhood and believe me, Its not pretty or quiet. It seems to be malicious to me.

I would get on my neighbors like stink on rice... or white on crap.. Ya know, go door to door with your police report

Hugs to you and your family! How awful, just plain awful! Maybe a sign on the door that reads Do NOT let the dogs out! Maybe you could start to lock it so who ever it was does not decide to 'help' you again. Besides the heart ache, I would be nervous about someone coming onto my property and touching anything. They made a big freakin' mess with their efforts. I am sorry for you and your kids. This is one of the worst life lessons and it just plain sucks! Again, I am very sorry! Don't give up on chickens. You were right to come here to vent your feeliings. There are some really great people here who can relate and give great advice. I treasure this site!
