d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Oh, one of the little D'anver girls squatted for the first time! It was Penny so I hope eggs are coming soon. No more bloodshed in the pen-the guys are getting along again, for now. Rusty got to free range with the old hens yesterday and when I put them in and went to get him, that boy zoomed away like a tiny speedboat! They are the fastest little goobers I've ever seen. I can't imagine too many ground predators that could catch them if they had room to run and a headstart, LOL.

yep, they are quick for a chicken, feisty too if need be. Had a broody hen beat the crap out of a cat the other day, just about died laughing. The cat just got too close and didnt know what was getting after it.

If your pullet is squatting and has that, well constipated look for a lack of a better description, then yep she should be trying.

Mine started back about 4 weeks ago finally, hatched about 100 this past weekend. Wont last long though, they usually completely stop by November

That means if I want any more of these, I'll have to hatch whatever I get before they quit laying for the season. I may have to wait till spring, then. I really don't want to brood babies over the winter.

Tell me, Aubrey, any controversy with the D'Anvers? I want a bird with no controversy! No Ameraucana vs EE, no SOP version somethings vs Imported version somethings, etc, etc, LOL.

no not really, they are a pretty smooth breed as far as all that goes. There are some super nice ones over seas, especially in Germany, but there are no real import lines here in the states to fight with, even if they were, the standards are pretty much the same. Nothing like the longatils either, slate leg, verses willow leg, non molter verses molter, onagadori verses phoenix, etc. They are a touchy breed when it comes to controversy. But the good ol d;anver is just a d'anver. Some are much better lines than others, but that's about it
