d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

D'anver males may be a bit fiestier

Funny, I wrote that, then erased it, LOL. I've only had one D'Uccle rooster, but he wasn't mature yet when I sold him. I'm told he turned a bit feisty later on, but I hear from friends who own D'Uccles that most of the roosters are pretty calm.

I can attest that the D'Anver boys are definitely "little big men". They love to push their less-than-considerable weight around, but since they weigh almost nothing, it's rather comical. I have four and they're all a bit different. The lowest ranking male is the least aggressive-he doesn't even bite me. One takes every chance he gets to bite or flog, but I expect it from him. The alpha male in there, Rufus, will occasionally bite, but not hard and he likes his chest rubbed, LOL. He did flog me the other day because I had a spray bottle and paper towels and was cleaning something in the coop-he sure hated that wad of paper towels for some reason. What a goof!

lol I think I might get some of both next year! thanks

dont have any of them to post just yet on the lavender buffs.
Coronation versions are a lavender white, not buff though.

The lavender version buff columbians and the porcelains are the same thing minus the mottling on the lavenders. If it has mottling, it's porcelain, if not , it's a lavender buff columbian.

I did get a really nice columbian hen last year, been working with her this year to make more, but it'll be next year before it shows. Same on the lavender whites. They are what is called the coronations in other breeds, and are barred as well.
I'll see what I have and post them in a minute

here's a very young, version of them in lavender and barred, basically a coronation d'anver barred. She shaped up very nice and did get a couple males too.

hmmmm this is one of the ones I am talking about

Now this one is my favorite little roo, but he has waddles. There is one that is porcelain colored but I don't see any spots yet. He is soooo scraggly though, right down to a crooked beak.

Just trying to figure out who to use

that one looks to be a buff columbian split to mottled.
All have wattles, the fuller beards just cover them. As with any, you have better thicker beards and some with thinner beards. That's his daddy pictured above.
I wouldnt use one to breed with that had a crooked beak. If it looks like him, just a cream color, then it is one of the lavender versions of them.
Once molted out, it should come out of the scraggly looking stage

Saw some great ones at the show this weekend! Lots of different colors too! I was a little cornfused by the size difference in them - fom say one hen to another - on cockeral to another- Seemed all over the board. Sadly the only pair there for sale were whites and no offense to anyone not what i am wanting! And well was literally two minutes late on a blue pair - as i was asking about them - the person came up with their carrier to take them home!

I like that blue buff Columbian and the Coronation barred!

Knox, I wouldn't want the white, either.

Here are Angus and Aimee today. I think Angus turned out really nice, though he started out a good bit smaller than Aubrey. His chest is amazing in its patterning.
