d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

me too.
Columbians will be your best bet, With a couple years on that cross, you should get some columbians. Then breed them to the bb's again to get the duckwing pattern, will take 2 crosses there to start getting a few silvers. I'm working on it too both ways, silver to them and columbian to them. Will keep you posted to the results as I get further along with them. Good thing is, once one of use gets silver dw, then it's just one more cross to get goldens, IF you dont already have them as a by product of the silver dw project.

I was hoping to get some off my crele project (cuckoo has silver in it too) so far havemt got any, but it's still a possiblity.

They don't have any feathers on their backs yet, but one of my little Crele is getting all kinds of white in it's wings and tail feathers. All the rest of them are still mostly black. The little Dun Cuckoos are still 3 different shades and the little Dun Mottled is still a gorgeous bright yellow with a black streak all the way down the middle of it's back. They are so much more advanced than "you know who's hatchery" chicks.

10 days old today and already full wings and little tails starting to feather. I'm just so proud of my little peeps!!!

that's great. Glad they are doing good. Curious to see what those crele project eggs grow up to be. At this point, in the project, they are making all sorts of colors.

I can most likely scrape you up another dozen just about any time you are ready Laura Lee

Sounds good, I'll give you a yell as soon as I get these babies close to leaving the living room. haha That's where we keep them so we can all watch them, then when big enough they head to the cages in the utility room. Man....we got the bird setup here.

I picked up a 2011 ABA standard while at the Crossroads show and have spent a great deal of time studying the standard d'Anver colors. When reading the male quail color it states the head should be "brilliant black thinly laced with golden bay." The hackle should be "brilliant black, the upper portion slightly laced with golden bay." The back should be "brilliant black laced with laced with deep golden bay." The saddle should be "brilliant black laced with deep golden bay." The APA standard reads the same, My question is the birds I see at shows and in pictures don't seem dark enough or laced enough to fit this description, am I missing something? If so why are most of the birds I see at shows the wrong color?

That must be why the hens always do better. I have another goal now. I have three young cockrels I was going to tale to the sale because I thought they were too black with too much lacing. I think I will give them some time and see what they look like in the spring. Thanks for the answer.

Goal 1 --- correctly colored quail male
Goal 2--- Best of Breed Millie

YEP you are most likely right there with the hens.

Sounds like a good project. My dun quail are actually my best males, plan to keep back a bunch of them just to try to add to the khakis and get some good quail back out of them.

Just noticed we had pasted 200 pages too!! We need an award
