d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

It 's not too bad yet, just a bunch of rain and some wind. Calling for a blizzard later tonight. I can recognize pick'in, been told I am quite accomplished at it myself.

Came home from work, my 8 6month old cockerels I kept because I think they are pretty good were standing around in the pen soaked to the skin. I toweled them off and put them in show boxes and grought them in the house for the night. Tomarrow I will put them in their coup and block the door. Ain't got sense enough to get out of the rain.

that's what happened to me last year in one of these things, lost hundreds.
Had put them out in the grow out pens as they were pelnty big enough.
Had a monsoon from one of these heavy rains didnt think a bit about it, they had a large pen and it was 3/4 fully roofed
Of course those idiots all piled up in one corner out of the roof in the rain all night, and pretty much virtually lost all of them.

Seems like it's always something with chickens.

We did get a pretty good weekend of wind here too as it passed by off the coast, actually still blowing 20-30 here now
and supposed to be 36 here tonight, aint even thought about a hurricane in freezing weather. Kinda unnatural there, bet that can certainly make a mess. Keep a good eye on everything and good luck getting threw it all

Well, looks like everything made it so far. Powers not on yet and I have some young birds I am a little worried about, but it is what it is. I think If I get power this afternoon it will be alright. At least we didn't get the snow.

yep good to hear. I always hate power outages this time of year due to the chicks in the brooders outside. Thankfully our weather calms down a bit this time of year so we dont get too much .
Mainly summer time thunderstorms and Tropical Storms.

Glad it didnt turn into snow on ya, man that would of been a mess. Couldnt imagine what a hurricane throwing snow would of been like.
We usually get 6-12 inches out of one here, some time 24 inches and it's something like 1 inch or rain makes t of snow, could you even comprehend what that could of done!! whew

Anyway glad yall made it threw all OK

That's good to hear, JJ! I'm so glad you fared okay in this mess. We got major winds and it seemed colder than it really was, of course. Today, sunny and about 35* and feels much warmer than it did yesterday at our high of 40* with high winds.

Molly is on Day 15 with her two eggs, one being Aimee's and one I'm not really sure of, but most likely Mina's since she insisted on laying in that nest with Molly until she went broody herself.

Aimee is on Day 12 with two of Mina's eggs.

for a little porcelain baby out of that since I have no idea if Mina's sire was Rufus or one of the porcelain males. Hoping Mina is a split.

Mina is on a few fake eggs in the nest next to Molly. I had to give her some fakes to lure her out of Molly's nest. Poor Molly was sick of her nest mate and I was afraid one of the eggs would get broken with both of them in that small nest. Those nests were made for bantams, but Molly is a LF Phoenix, a small standard to be sure, but still, not anywhere near as small as a D'Anver hen.

I may give one of Aimee's chicks to Mina if they make it to hatch so they can all be raising babies at the same time. Mina would only be on about Day 6 now if I'd given her a real egg. No one was even laying so there were none to give her other than maybe one from the main flock and even those hens are all finishing up molts now.
