d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

the last couple. I took all of these by my self, but many of them are learning how to stack, like a dog at a show, so maybe next time I can get hubby to take the picture of them stand really good.

Tell me about the color #1

#2

# 3

The two dark ones are going to be millies, I will leave the other one to Aubrey. It almost has to be a golden neck but I have only seen one and it wasnt that "dirty" looking. I have had some mille chicks that were real light looking. out of the birds I have.

Hmm, thats what I thought at first, that the 2 darker ones were millie, then I went back to the chick pictures Aubrey posted a long time ago, and they dont have any striping, just solid grey backs, so thats why I thought porcelain. I dont remember mine it seems so long ago. So the 3rd one has me really at a loss. Cant wait to hear from Aubrey on that one.

thanks JJ for your reply. I know you have hatched a few

and have seen all kinds of markings.

yep the 2 dark ones are norma mille chick color. Some show more striping some dont, but that's a basic mille chick color.
The other one, who knows? should be a mille based chick from what you have, but it doesnt conform to any color I have seen yet.
a goldneck will be orange and white, a porcelain is a smokey blue and cream.

Betting this odd ball will be a pale mille, and maybe carry dominate white.
To get your porcelain, both parents have to be porcelain or be split for lavender. None of mine are splits, so from mine you'd have to have a pair of porcelains to get porcelains off the first breeding.

on your older birds, that first goldneck pullet looks perfect. The other wont be too bad either.
on the others you showed, they'll be pretty nice too in the long run. That one doesnt have too much black, each feather on them is supposed to be tipped in a black V and finished in white. So every feather should have black, you just dont want massive patches, just the tips except for the tail and such. They change over time getting better and better mottling up til they are usually 2. The white does the most. So one with light white as a yearling has a lot of potential. Where one with a lot of white as a yearling will usually be too white as it matures.

Thanks Aubrey

Ok, well I do have a pair of porcelain from you Aubrey. thats why I thought maybe porcelain. Unfortunatly, my porcelain pullet is not doing well now :( she had this huge lump under her left wing, I am thinking abscess, anyway, now the lump is smaller, but she really isnt able to walk. She has been up in the house for 10days, other then her lump, I thought she was egg bound originally. So I have no idea if she will make it at this point, but she is still eating, just not able to really walk, she hobbles and kinda walks on her wings for balance.

I guess the lump could be some sort of tumor, and it is pressing on nerves ??? ANyway, I am babying her in th ehouse until she passes or we have to help her or she will get better. Of course she is beautiful. Wish I had a picture before all of this happened.

Kris here is a pic of two porcelain chicks and a millie. But the millie is one of the light ones.

SO cute. Well that little one of mine definitly doesnt look like any of them. It will be really interesting to see what I get, now I cant wait to see it feather out. It looks so muich like a yellow chick with just some striping. Maybe I should take weekly pics of that little one

Aubrey, thanks, I think we will have to take care of that porcelain pullet. she now sems to not be able to get up. I am second guessing the abscess, and thinking some kind of growth, that is pressing on nerves. I dont see anyway she is going to improve, but her eating and drinking is just so normal. She just cant walk.

Hey, any idea why Aimee's feather legged kids are always HUGE compared to the other chicks? And they're pullets, too. The pullet of hers among these four is a moose, as usual. And the leg feathering seems to become even more pronounced every time.

Got pics of the kids, especially the porcelain pullet, who now has a name-she will be called Maura.

In the pic just below, that huge chick facing left is Aimee's daughter. Gosh, I need a name for that moose of a girl (and I just can't call her Moose, LOL, not a D'Anver)
