d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

To tell the truth I don't know which one that one turned out to be. At that time all my millie chicks were hatching light but they darkened up when they got older. The base color was the same on them but some did get too white around the head. Here is a picture of one of the light chicks at 2 or 3 weeks

I finally got some better pictures of my Porcelains this morning.

Opinions welcome

My 3 porcelains as chicks

This poor little one was born a star gazer (Thiamine deficient) It took some hard work to pull her through. Sure glad she made it because she is so friendly and sweet!

they look real good color wise. They look a little shocked or curious in the pics, way off on posture and all, so it's hard to tell anything about them there. They need to look like a big V on the males especially and to a lesser degree on the girls. But look pretty decent. Nice to hear you got the weak one to pull threw. That doesnt happen very often

Cynthia, I get big ones like that that just grow faster. They all even out in the long run though. Do yours, or do they maintain a bigger body over all? If so, it could be some d'uccle in them ( the feather leg culprit that I found out had been bred into them by the other breeder)

Aimee's chicks stay larger than the rest, Aubrey. And hers are the only ones with feathered legs, too, so I'm betting you're right. I even thought of that myself, that the D'Uccles used to get the mille color was also causing the larger size in Aimee's daughters.

ETA: I'm going to call this moose of a mille child "Leah", so my new up and coming pullets are Maura and Leah. I'll name the two cockerels as well since I probably won't be able to rehome them, if this time is anything like last time.

The chickens weren't to happy this morning when I was taking pictures. It was 24 degrees, plus they were all milling about anxiously awaiting to be fed. That said, I agree they have nice color, but I am pretty sure lacking in good V body shape. Looking forward to getting some good quality porcelains from you

I was going to put down the star gazer chick that morning, when suddenly (on day 3) she jumped out of her box that was keeping her from falling backwards from her twisted neck and joined the other chicks! It felt like a miracle! To get her through her ordeal I force fed her scrambled egg, little drops of water off of the end of my finger and yeast (rich in B vitamins) plus gave her B12 liquid and Polyvisol baby vitamins. This info might be helpful to others that encounter this problem. I read that the mother hen must have been thiamine deficient to pass it on through the egg to the chick. Almost immediately after hatch she started looking up (star gazing) and just a couple of hours after hatching her neck started twisting backwards. It was heartbreaking

I was elated when she recovered! Of course I couldn't help but name her "Star"

that's good info, thanks for sharing that. I've never been able to get one of those to make it. Get a handful threw the year, but they usually just dont pull threw, those and wry neck ones
