Here is my quail hen. She won Junior Grand Champion in the 2013 Bluebonnet Classic in College Station, Texas.

This pullet came from a Cuckoo egg

As did this one I have two little Cuckoo boys too and as Much as I was insure about Cuckoo patterned birds I love them
yep I used those single factored males this year since they had a lot better type on them. When you do that, you can get a few blacks like that... I love anything barred up though, just makes a cool looking bird to me

A barred rooster will produce barred chicks every time, at least to some degree. Barring will vary on them from crisp to ghosty. He passes his barring gene to all progeny. It's different if the hen is barred and the rooster is not since barring is sex linked-a solid rooster and barred hen will produce solid daughters and barred sons, hens passing barring to their sons only. Been there many times when I bred BR roosters to Ameraucana and EE hens.

When covered by a barred Roo she will throw Cuckoo since she has the gene Right
yes , as I was just saying, as long as the male is double factored ( the pale ones) ... either way all the males from her will be barred.

a bared hen to a unbarred male will make barred male chicks and solid pullets.

but if bred to a single factored barred male you get all barred males, and 50/50 on the pullets

and if bred to a douple factored barred male, everything is barred then

To add to my d'Anvers collection, today's hatch (from eggs from Kristen Ramsdell, not from this quail hen):

It says a lot about the size of this breed that that's a two-gallon nursery pot with a three-inch board for stability; I had to build a step for the chicks. Any ideas as to possible colors?

(I also have a Splash Quail cockerel, a Blue Quail pullet, and a Silver Quail pair that hatched the weekend of May 19th, as well as the Porcelain pullet I bought in November: addictive little things!)
