d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I have another d'Uccle broody. I moved my D'anver pullet in with Rusty and the girls I figure this is a good time since the girls are distracted. I had to move Rusty out of the bantam house and into his coop. Evedintly he isn't taking the bachelor life very well.

As of today, I have yet another broody D'anver hen, one of the six who was broody three months ago. Maura, my porcelain, just went over the edge. So, 4 of the 6 have gone back to it again. Only Aimee and Mina are still abstaining. Sissy's 4 eggs are on Day 20 on Saturday. One is in the air cell last time I candled (late this afternoon).

Today is the day! 3 black breasted red d'Anver out so far and one more on the way.

Had to rush to my FIL's house today, about an hour and a half west of us, and leave my broody with her eggs pipping. I did candle them before I left to see about one particular egg and as I suspected, it was way behind, not going to hatch so I tossed it out, a quitter. Under Sissy, Maura's egg and Jenny's egg are both zipping now. Only Sissy's own egg is not pipped or in the air cell yet. Not even sure it's alive in there, didn't see movement, though it seems properly developed. Hoping for porcelains.

ETA: Watched a movie and when we went to check Sissy, she has one porcelain (or very light mille) hatched, but the other one that was partially zipped was dead. I guess she clamped down and smothered it. I think the last one may be a late quitter, but will wait to see tomorrow. At least she has one chick to raise. Penny and Carly's chicks are not due for about two weeks, then the latest broody just started sitting yesterday.

ETA, again: The chick, which is Maura's, my porcelain hen, is a porcelain. The last egg looks to me like a late quitter, so I guess Sissy will have only the one chick, unfortunately. The one that was smothered/crushed and didn't finish zipping was a mille and was Jenny's chick.

I wonder about the two quitters. All of the LF eggs hatched, no quitters, 100% hatch rate under those same broodies. Spike has been less perky of late for some reason, I've noticed. I wonder if he's not well. He just seems lethargic to me, not his usual chatty self. I see it in his eyes, too. I hope he's okay, but if he is doing downhill for some reason, could be his chicks are less than robust. Aubrey doesn't do as much breeding himself and leaves most of the "heavy lifting" to Spike. Could be nothing, maybe I'm imagining it.

Sad update. I moved Sissy and her baby to the milk crate nest below and watched her settle on the baby and last egg (which I later removed, late quitter). My FIL died this morning so I didn't go back to check until about an hour had passed. She had left the baby and went back to the empty nest above and the chick was dead. Darn stupid hen. So, in a fit, I moved all three remaining broodies out of those nests so there will be no more of that crud. Penny and Carly are in the broody cage in the front storage area and Maura's 4 eggs are in the milk crate (turned on its side with an added plastic lip to keep the hay in). And Sissy doesn't understand about her dead baby. I tried to revive it, but it was already gone.

My trio of Danvers a dble barred male over a cuckoo female and a black male made a slew of dble barred little boys. Then I hatched out what I believed to be a girl. But it turned out to be a single barred boy that began crowing while still in the brooder. Now I hatched out these three. Which are not showing barring at all But are dun, as is the dbl barred daddy. I assume mama is the black hen. So they are very likely girls......Right?
