d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Do any of you have experience with Exchequer Leghorns? I have someone wanting to trade a quad for some of my Silkie. I've read mixed reviews on them.

I don't know anything about them except that they lay white eggs, Karen. They'd be better layers than Silkies, I'd guess, though.

Atlas fighting with Spike at the fence. Aubrey absolutely hates for Spike to fight with other roosters at the fence line so he chased Spike around several times. I guess he feels it's undignified to do that.

Lord love him. I hope Atlas doesn't get ahold of him. My silkies are out laying everyone right now. LOL

I don't have any Silkies and nobody is laying much. I get eggs from three D'Anver hens, Carly, Maura and sometimes, Aimee, but no one else is producing. Gosh, they'll be 4 years old the first week of April, hard to believe. I've lost two young layers in the last three months in addition to Jenny but the old hens who don't lay keep on trucking. Some are about to turn 8 years old in January.

Here's Pistol who I hatched from an egg I got from Aubrey!
Beautiful! He would make a great mate for my dun cuckoo pullet hatched from Aubrey's eggs!

Well . . . we didn't get the new chicken house done in time. One of the 2 trees leaning over the existing houses and runs decided to come down last night!

Luckily no chickens were hurt, but my kennel is trashed along with some roof and fence in another pen. Now the rush is on to finish up the new house before the tree next to the one that fell last night comes down on the chicken house!! Now we have even a bigger job ahead of us cleaning up the mess, and more money to replace the kennel.

You can see the new house construction in the background. NO trees around it!

Tree on the right of the fallen tree is the one leaning over the chicken house.
