d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I got eggs marked Dun Cuckoo. And got a dark barred pair. And two light barred cockerels. I assumed the lighter ones were dun and the darker just Cuckoo. One Cuckoo pullet turned out black or dun. To early to tell. Thrilled with them Aubrey.

Cieraphoto, yes I do work with my chicks. I hold them 3 times per day. Now, they take naps in my lap when we go into the garden.

Here during naptime on my lap are Em, Bea, and Midas. ("Em" may be for Emma or Emmet-- not 100% sure yet!)

The chick on the left is Em, who falls asleep upside-down in my hand!

Thank you! That is great info! I will show both sexes of the cuckoos.

I just wanted to say that these are the greatest little birds! I ended up with 2 pairs of cuckoos, a trio of black, a trio of lavender, a trio of lavender cuckoo, a pair of mottled and a white pullet. All from eggs I bought from you on eBay. I plan on keeping all of them and showing them. I will definitely purchase more varieties in the future

that's great to hear. So glad you like them. As they grow, if you have any questions or anything, feel free to ask away , here or threw the website, I'll be happy to help you all I can.

post some new pics of them when you get a chance, I'll be happy to look them over and tell you what you ended up with.

Yes dun is like blue in that it can also make black and khaki at times, so it's possible to get some normal cuckoos out of them.

and being a new color, my males are only single copied barred right now, so they can make males that are single copied and males that are double copied, so the shade would be kinda hard to judge them off of sex wise. Also the dun color itself will make it hard since dun , like blue, can rabge a lot in color tone. It can go from a dull smokey grey to a deep chocolate, so that can make one look light or dark too just depending on which shade of dun it came out with.

But when you get a second, post some picks of them all together and I'll look them over for you.

Ohhhh Chickie, they're gorgeous! So feathered-out and balanced-looking now! Mine still have that "Hunchback Of Norte Dame" look, with the heads still fuzzy with some down and the bodies all bulky with feathers. Your birds look beautiful, well-grown, and stunning! You're doing a great job keeping them healthy, and I love the colors you have!

Update: We tried to put the babies in the new coop last night, but, we started getting worried that the hardware cloth wasn't dense enough, so we've got them back in the box in the front room in the house for now. This weekend, we'll cover with plywood one of the areas we want reinforced.

What amazing personalities this breed has. Independent but friendly, capable but so very sweet! Just a little working with them each day has made them really connected and friendly.

very nice indeed. and it did turn out to be a pair on the khaki quail! the barred dun quail looks to be a pullet too so you can breed her with that group too if you wanted.
