d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Cynthia, She is a little pink but I still see a pullet. Her legs don't look overly thick like roosters normally do. I am sure your instincts are a lot better than mine though.

I see what you do, a pullet's body shape. The pink in the comb is giving me pause but all other signs, including the size of the comb, say girl. Thanks for looking, JJ.

I agree on the little Easter Egger male from TSC. If it's TSC, most of them this year are getting their chicks from Mt. Healthy Hatchery.

The porcelain chick will be 4 weeks old Tuesday and still doesn't look any more manly to me. Maybe my first gut reaction that it was a pullet was right after all. Either way, it has a home, just depends on male or female as to which home.

And JJ, I am settled that my Dalmatian chick is a pullet. Look at her today at 8 weeks old

Hey everyone! I am new to d'anvers, so I was wondering if you find the roos to be mean towards people. Everytime im near one at shows or trades, they strut around and act like they are going to attack me. Do the hens and roos like being handled a lot?
Thanks

Generally, the males have that Little Man Syndrome. The super friendly ones are very rare from my limited experience. They really do vary a lot from indifferent to you to trying to sneak up and attack to attacking every chance they get whether you're looking or not. The hens are completely opposite to the males, sweet and cuddly, overall.

I have to share this... It will give y'all a good laugh. My Mama came over and wanted to see my goose sitting on the nest. My Mama who does not care for chickens. In order to see the goose we had to walk clear across my property. Picture 40+ chickens free ranging. She was busy making sure the turkeys didn't get to close which is a achievement because my slate hen acts like a cat and wants to rub up against your legs. My LF flock figured out she didn't have anything for them to eat and went about their business of hunting for bugs and such. Now the bantam are a different story. They are like young school kids with a visitor in the classroom. They all wanted attention. I saw it coming and got my arm around her for my d'Uccle roo to land on. He thinks shoulders are the perfect height to crow from. I didn't see one of the D'anver girls take flight and try to land on her shoulder. Its a good thing all her screaming and squealing even surprised Rusty the attach roo. As I was cracking up at my Mama pitching a fit and running across the yard from those tiny chickens the D'anver girls were pitching a fit and I bet they were asking what was wrong with that crazy woman. Rusty went into Hitler mode and was marching around the girls doing his own squawking. Then the 10 lb dog licked her on the back of the leg. Well all I can say is my Poor Mama got her exercises running back and forth across the yard. She did think the goose looked pretty on her nest though. You can bet the next time she comes for a visit I will have a video camera.
