d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

New D'Anver coop progress made today. Hope they aren't too unhappy having roughly half the room they're used to having, but they really don't need it. There are only 9 of them and this is 8x4.

Looks like they will be very cozy in there.

Your coup is going together so fast! I hated to take the day off from working on ours, but had to take care of business. Back at it tomorrow!

We did piers on our main coop, which is on a pretty big slope, but this wasn't that bad. The current bantam coop was put on about the most level piece of ground on our 5 acres other than our own house. I just want for once to have someone else build something. Though I do like the process, I'm not sure I have a big barn left in me, LOL.

Oh, JJ, yoohoo, JJ! You wanna come down to Georgia and build me that 12'x 20' barn next year?

Road trip!!!!!!

I know. I still have to find some paint, too, though. And everyone must be in their respective coops and set up for winter soon. I fear it will be a bear of a winter here. Sweet old Amanda is stuck in a cage until we can get that old hens' group moved into the current bantam coop. And I'll have to set up a heat lamp for her under those nestboxes because she sleeps on the floor alone. So, we are in a rush to do the coop shuffle, then get our firewood.

I can't even decide on siding! It is all so expensive! Still talking paint. Need to check out Home Depot for the oops paint. My husband just drew out the plans for the roof, so tomorrow we go get the lumber for that. I have a feeling it is going to be a hard winter here too. I need to get our house done before it hits as well.

I remember how it was to get that wood in for winter. It was our only heat in the house when we lived near Lake Tahoe in the mountains. Now we have a diesel oil heater and a propane fireplace insert. Thinking about changing back to a wood burning stove as the price of everything goes up! We had (more to cut once the old chicken house is taken down) to cut several large trees to build the new chicken house and our daughter and family will be getting the wood to heat their home this winter.

Found the paint today at Walmart! The coop will be a sort of slatey-blue green color. They had some Oops paint, 3 gallons of exterior satin, for half price, which will do the outside and probably part of the inside as well. Will use the garnet/burgundy color for the trim that we have here, same as on the coops now and our own house. I didn't care what color it was as long as it wasn't red or black. Coulda been pink and I'd have bought it, but this will be more sedate, LOL.

Tomorrow, we are back on track and will push to get it done this weekend, except maybe the paint and the roof shingles. If it doesn't rain, may get most all of it finished. Wish me luck!

It is so darn expensive to do anything now, I hate to think of building the last building, and I may have to cut it down in size, but eventually, it will be done, somehow.

Dried in except for the vent covers, human door and pop door!

I am so envious! Wish mine was that far along! Looking good! If I am lucky, we will be going to Home Depot later today to get the siding and get it on tomorrow. Hubby says the siding needs to go on before the roof to lock everything into place and keep everything square.

I like your paint color choices! Ours will be grey green to match our house.

All that remains to be done is construct the pop door and human doors and vent covers, shingle the roof, put up roost and paint. Then, we have to fix the pen so the D'Anvers cannot fly out since no fliers have ever been penned there before now. And we're ready for the big move.
Note the redneck insulation, aka Walmart plastic bags, various types of bubblewrap and painters sheeting all stuffed in cracks and crevices. DH has been caulking today as well. Hardware cloth over all vents, plus on ceiling where we cut in to put the turtleback vent on the roof.

Insulation photo b4 inner walls went up.
