d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Can anybody tell me what color our D'anver is? We bought a boy and two girls last September for our daughter to take for 4H. I cannot remember what color we were told and I got a new phone that no longer has the contact information for the guy we bought them off of. I'm thinking self blue, blue or lavender but I really don't have any idea. I'm thinking she may need to know this for fair. He looks more like the bottom picture. The top picture, I used my flash. Your opinions are appreciated.

he has white quills, splash would have darker quills. so hes lavender ( self blue) he does have a little rusty leakage coming threw. but still a lavender

Yea, I got one right, lol! Hiya, Aubrey!

I had a single quail d'Anver chick hatch. Is there anyway to tell sex with this color early on? I don't want to get attached as I can't keep a roo.

not one single little bit of a chance unfortunately. They have to get feathered out first. Some times a wider comb base is early male sign at 3-4 weeks, but those will trick you too.
Start watching for lacing in the back feathers for girls. or solid patches or red/gold feathers on the wing and or back for boys. Girls will not have much solid colored areas except the breast . everything else is laced and patterned up on them.

Well, it happened. It was inevitable, really. Couldn't stop it if I tried.

Aimee is broody again, first time for 2015. Of course, she is the main layer contributing to the hatching egg collections I was having a good bit of luck selling locally.

Sooo, the measly two D'Anver eggs I had collected, one of them definitely hers, are under her, along with one pure BR and one test egg out of a strange couple here. At least, I'm sure I can get rid of the chicks now. Not like that year that I had all those gorgeous pullets growing out and no one wanted them, can you imagine?

Thanks for the response. I'll just pray she is a girl. I'll post some pics when she feathers out and try not to get too attached.

Aw, you need a D'Anver rooster. After all, he won't be a real rooster, he just thinks he is, LOL. He's really not much more than a squeaky toy. One of my first friends to see them in person was squatting down in the coop and one crowed behind him and he said, "Why don't you crow like a real rooster?" They do have piercing high pitched crows, but they don't have much carrying power unless you have about a thousand like Aubrey does!

Hey, about 4 seconds into this video of another rooster I rehomed, you hear a very clear D'anver rooster crow in the background. Just so you can hear one, here is the video, just for that sound.
