Gazing at her Reflection

Here are a couple of pictures of that bird that has got me scratching my head.

Here it is in the brooder beside a pullet.

Close up of its lacing that runs all the way to its tail.

Comb looks roosterish, feathers look like a pullet. I change my mind every day about its gender.

What do you think?

Thanks, I think so, too. I adore these little girls. They are just too precious! Rufus, the alpha male in there, is usually a really good boy, too. He sometimes has his work cut out for him when Rusty starts a rumble with one of the other three (why is Rusty always in the middle of every fight??). When Rufus jumps in the middle, the fighting quits in seconds.

Aubrey I must tell you the truth about that Crew of Cynthia's as I just spent the weekend with them. Ahem....We shall take them in order of name

Angus - sweet, distant but beautiful

Aubrey - gorgeous bites and attempted a flog till I flicked him away can be a toerag

Aimee - flies onto your head, shoulder, shirt or all three every chance she gets and totally adorable

Carly - sweet adorable little thing very petite

Penny - what a PITA! She must be on your body at all times, nosey, in your face, center of attention craving pest. Look up pest in the dictionary and it will have Penny's picture there

Rusty (Mille Male) - complete snotrag and toerag now dubbed "1 lb menace". That boy attacked me while I was squatting down in the coop and got flipped off his feet away from me so he circled around me and tried a blindsided attack and got flicked away so then he tried a sneak up behind me attack and got picked up and chucked a couple of feet away....total menace that thinks he is a 12lb orpington. Hahahahahaha. But on day 3 he was letting me reach through the fence and rub his chest because I punished him which you will read under the Rufus story. Ahem

Rufus (mille male and head man in the bantam coop). Will bite sometimes get testy with Cyn but now totally smitten and in love with LadyHawk aka Cetawin.

So Cynthia takes me into the bantam coop to look inside at the setup and I squat down as she is introducing me to everyone and of course Rusty and Aubrey act like little twits and then head man Rufus comes over and I held my hand out and said "Hi Rufus my goodness aren't you handsome" and he comes a little closer and "tastes" my hand to see if I have anything for him and I said "Sorry no goodies handsome boy" and he inches closer so I rub his chest and tell him he is a good boy. Cynthia was pretty amazed, so I stand up to look around and Rufus charges over and pecks my leg so I squat back down and he pushes his chest out hahahahaha. So I rub his chest and take my hand away, he comes closer with his chest puffed out so I rub him him again and this goes on for 5 mins and I said "Rufus, do you want me to pick you up? Come here handsome boy". Cynthia says, they don't like being picked up really as I held both hands out and he came over and bit at my fingers and wedding ring a few times and I just slid my hands around him and scooped Rufus off the floor and tucking him against my chest like a football...and I am rubbing his chest telling him what a good boy he is...Rusty attacks me about that time and gets flipped away while Rufus is sitting them with his chest in my hand as content as a puppy! Well I put him down and he bites me so I put both hands out and he rushes over between my hands to be picked up. Thus our relationship began. Hahahahaha. In all honesty I think Rufus was very curious about this hand sticking out there allowing him to nibble at it and not jerking away and once he got his chest rubbed well that did it, the hand and that lady with the glasses was just the thing for him. Hahahaha. So everytime I walked near his pen Rufus rushed to the side and shoved his chest against the fence so I reached and rubbed him.

Sunday morning before we headed home I told Cynthia I was going to take pics of the bantams and I walked into the enclosure and of course the 1 lb menace tried to attack and got flicked away again and I squat down to take pics....never do that in her bantam pen. Aimee flies on my head and is pecking at the camera and my glasses, Penny jumps up onto my knee (and by the way she is a fat little thing) and she is sticking her face all in front of the camera from about 1/2 an inch from the lens, Rusty is attacking me and Rufus is biting my leg to be rubbed. Chaos trying to get a picture! So I get some pics (to be downloaded in a bit), scoop Rufus up and stand up. I said to him "Rufus, let's go get mama to take our picture" and I take him outside of pen. He has never been outside his huge enclosure and he was fascinated with stuff while safely in my arms and Cynthia is like "Rufus has never been out", so I asked her to take our picture because of the pests in the bantam coop. I walked Rufus all over the place talking to him and explaining to him about rose leaves and blueberry bushes and showed him the garden. I said "Cyn, you mind if I let him go, I will catch him if he makes a break for it", so she leary a bit says "Okay" so I let him go. He was a hoot! But he would come right to Cyn or I unless he was distracted by something green but you could walk right over to him and get him to come to you. So she let her old ladies out with him and he was finding them goodies. I gave them some pancake and he was sharing with the girls and when he was ready to go back inside he went to his pen and I scooped him up and took him back inside. Yes I cuddlized her head rooster! Why? Well it is what I do. Hehehehehe. The 1 lb menace was having a running pacing fit in the pen because he normally gets to go out with the ladies but not this time and he does not get pancake nor did he get any because he was being a toerag!

On my way home I call Cyn to let her know the babies I picked up were doing fine and thank her for the weekend when she tells me I have ruined her Rufus. At bedtime when she went to put everyone up Rufus was still outside so she went to rub his chest and he bit her and then flogged her and looked at her with this expression she described as "You are not the right one, where is my other lady!" And then he walked away from her and went inside the coop.

Hard for me to get his picture because he right up against constantly LOL Cyn had to get a pic of us. She should have let him come with me and she could have avoided a flogging, he wanted go too, I asked him and he said "Yes I want to live in Kentucky"
lau.gif
He would have happily rode the 5 hours home in my lap, who needs an extra crate for that adorable boy. BTW my husband just rolled his eyes when he saw me with Rufus but secretly he was afraid verrrrrrrry afraid that Rufus was riding home with me.

Eh that 1 lb menace would learn to fly in reverse from me chucking him away from me, he would forget what forward meant! LOL Don't blame me when my little love flogs you, you do not do it right. You have to talk to him just right and hold your hands right and rub his chest right.....its your own fault you should have paid better attention.
gig.gif
But Rufus did say he thought he would like bluegrass and horses and that Kentucky would be a nice place to live. You just were not listening at the time. hahahahahaha
