d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Ok everyone be patient here, I'm gonna try something new. Trying to put up a couple pics of my new babies, not sure if I know what I'm doing or not.

So here goes

These are my first two babies that I ordered from Ideal, I actually ordered 16 and this is what I have left. I think the bigger chicks trampled them on the way home, or some of them also looked very under developed, but I got these two cuties out of it!!

Here are my little darlins, learning to roost on my daughters fingers. We call her Ellie Mae, she is the only young girl I know who will tuck a rooster under her arm and walk around like she's holding a puppy. Any way she said it was time they practiced. LOL

And here is my little Roo trying to take flight! She also said he needed to learn that too.

And if this is all you do to put them up here, then dang! that was easy!!
Just had to share

They are adorable LauraLee. Out of 16, did you get any replacement babies from the hatchery or etc. A 2 baby survival rate is not good and someone should be offering up some replacements I would think.

Wow you guys are killing me - the grudge match of the century looks like it is gearing up - and aubrey the story of him with a sword in hs mouth! HAHAHAH! Love it!

I'm glad you posted that Laura Lee,
Every time I make a post that Ideal bantam chicks are very frail and dont ship well, and are under developed I get crucified on here but it's that darn truth. Doubt it was the bigger chicks. I've ordered from there several times to get stuff for color projects and always have the same results you did, out of 30-50 maybe 3-4 will make a week old??

BUT let's not turn this into that kinda talk, just figured I'd let you know I have the same experience.

Glad to see you figured out how to post them here, and nope, nothing much to it, just a copy and paste.

JJ,

Mine seems to do the same thing ! HAHA
On the birds though, it can go both ways, can be a bird trait, or can be age. But no a 2 year old is still a teenager, it wont start to happen til 3-4 + based on age, and isnt necessarily all just beard. I have a 5 year old lavender hen that is almost solid white now. Each year she just got paler and paler, looked almost mottled lavender last year, this year there are just a few blue feathers left. But none of the other lavenders have done that either, so again, may just be an individual deal there too??

On mottled birds , they for a fact get more mottling with each year and continue to develop their color til they are 3-4. Now my dark millie below, he was just born that way.

So yes, age plays a role on their coloring, to what extent is an individual deal though.
so if you start to notice then getting whiter or paler in time, that's all it is , is aging of the bird, for the most part

They did send a credit to my card. I think they were maybe speeding up their hatches or something only the little quail that I got looked healthy, the rest looked like they were under developed.
But theses two are doing great now.
Does anybody know, I forgot to ask him. Does Aubrey ship his eggs through the post office or ups? Just wondering where I should be watching at. LOL

Well as you are figuring out Aubrey, I'm about as patient as a chicken in the skillet. Just so excited to get them here, where I know they are safe and won't be slapped around by some big bad box thrower.
What color did you say my little grey pullet was? She has more of the tan coming out on her chest now, so she is not gonna be solid as I first thought. May have to put you up a more current pic of her. The one that is on here is from about a week ago.
