d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Aubrey, It looks a lot lighter in the picture. You can see lavender in its back and wings.I believe it will be porcelain, But ain't them legs yellow. Both parents have slate legs. I have a few more to hatch Saturday and if they turn out the same I will quit on them. Maybe put the hen with my bb red and try out buff columbian.

I picked up chicks today from a friend who did the hatching for me and he sent me home with a little two week old Blue d'Anver baby..it is a real snuggler and is 1/2 the size of the day old chicks. Now I just need to come up with a good name when I know if it is a pullet or a roo.

Nanakat,

Just to clairify, that's a blue quail chick looks like, the cheek pattern says so at least, betting it's going to be a rooster for you, time will tell though, still early to know for sure.

JJ,

I'm just not seeing it? That's 100% not a porcelain though, they are patterned and mainly blue as chicks, same pattern as a mille, just blue.

May be a little faint blue on the lower back?? Still what has me is the over all color, and lack of clear pattern. The columbian pattern they are based off of should be clear in a chick.... Dont worry about the leg color. All light color chicks hatch pale legged and get darker with age. Even your blacks they are somewhat yellowish, they change quick though. Also IF it is a mottled pattern or a cuckoo patterned bird, it will never have good slate legs anyway, those are usually pearl and mottled. Mottled ones can have blue legs or at least pale blue, but many dont, barred never in a million years will...
Keep some progress pics going of that one, want to see what it ends up being....

Aubrey- Will do on the progress pics. I am waiting to see if the rest look like that of if it is a one off deal. I got three weeks worth in the bator. Another thing about it that is different is it just looks so round compared to my other chicks. Both of the porcelain roo I hatched last summer from your eggs has good type and the hen is a light looking millie I got from Tom Shepherd. She is a little big but has good type. I guess I just have to wait and see.

Cyn- It takes me alot to tries to get a picture that is any good, good thing you don't have to buy film anymore.

JJ and Cynthia: Amen to that. Digital is so easy on the pocketbook.
But I still keep the old film camera and power zoom lens.

Thanks Aubrey. Do you have any photos of what a Blue Quail d'Anvers will look like all grown up?

jj and Cynthia, Amen to that. Digital makes picture taking so much easier. But I'm still hanging on to my fil camera with the huge zoom lens.
Thanks Aubrey. Do you have any pictures of a BlueQuail d'Anvers all grown up?

Never mind on the pictures. I searched and found some great photos by tbooher1 in an auction back in April 2011

first few pages of this thread, I have some of about every color on there.... basically a quail, but the black areas are blue and the red body is more washed out and paler.

yep, keep an eye on them and let's see what else comes out.

Didnt really look at the shape til you said something, it is a round little bugger aint it! But looks to have a fat beard on it.

will be interesting to see what it ends up being and if it's a one timer.

I know Tom had been crossing milles and porcelains a year or two back, was trying to improve his porcelain line.

But it should still have the columbian pattern even if it's a lavender split mille??
