d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

got a few due myself this weekend, not many, maybe a dozen or so, these are getting into that dead period where everything stopped on me. Got a box full from this week though, so looking up at least. Several different colors finally started this week. Got the first ones from the dun and blue cuckoo, dun quail, several project colors, mottled, and oh yea, now that Cynthia is done, the porcelains started this week hahahaha..... Mine or yours, they just dont want to cooperate with you do they... If I remember right, that's why you got half milles last time, because the porcelains werent laying good, the week after they were wide open again.... that's chickens for you, they never do what you want when you want.

Anyway, to all those waiting on eggs, I've been telling you all March, looks like we should be on schedule. There's still several that havent done a thing yet, but as many that started just this week, we shouldnt be long, getting a few dozen a day now finally.... come on no more cold weather!!
My momma always told me "patience is a virtue". I'm very patient...Good things always come to those who wait...

I haven't gotten an egg out of my silver quail pen in a couple of weeks. My millie and lav hen with my porcelain roo have been laying good. I do have one in the hatcher out of what I consider my good millie pen, those layed about 3 eggs each then quit. You would think if you take care of them good they would lay all the time. Go figure.

Oh thoust is gonna feel like Custer at the Little Big Horn *smirk*

Ain't that always the way of it, Aubrey? Yup, I got half Milles last time because the Porcelains weren't laying well, but that's okay. I did get my little Aubrey and Angus out of it. Just missing that porcelain hen I want. It's okay this time, though. Even if your porcelains had been laying, I was still on the fence about getting more or just sticking with what I had here.

My "hairy legged hoard" is on Day 6 today, along with the regular D'Anvers, Delawares, BRs, and mixed color Orps, barred EEs and Delaweggers.

When will you candle them? I have some large fowl eggs in right now, because a friend of mine wants some mixed laying hens, So there are some EE's, speckeled sussex, astralorps, and buff orps that are all penned with a blue jersy giant roo. It ought to be a mix. Or I could use them for heavy calvary againse the hoard.

I won't do the actual big candling until maybe tomorrow or Sunday, though I did test candle one of Aimee's and one of my lav Cochin's, both developing very nicely. I have some eggs piggybacked and I wanted to wait till I could candle the bigger eggs in the turner, so wherever one wasn't coming along well, I could remove that and seat one of the "riders" into the turner. It's harder to see into those brown eggs from my Barred Rocks, Delawares and Orps than the D'Anvers. Well, maybe I could candle the D'Anvers since I know for sure I can tell on those at the end of Day 6.

D'anvers are pretty easy, you can tell on day 3 if they are any good. I agree the brown ones are harder, but I can't see as good any more. My first one is out the millie from my other millie pen. They arent splits.

I candled them. Had to remove one of Penny's that was riding on top-had a blood ring. I think it was jostled around too much in there. Removed one of the banty Cochin's as well. Didn't even appear to have been fertilized, which is near to impossible in that pen. No blood ring, just the yolk shadow, no veining. The rest seem to be developing normally at this point. I didn't candle the Orps or the BRs, just a couple of the Delawares and a few others, which are growing well.
