d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Are you ready for CUTENESS OVERLOAD???????

And Aimee had already stolen two of Penny's three babies, even with a barrier between them! We took it down since it did no good at all. And when Penny saw Aimee still had an egg, she tried to steal it and ended up going to Aimee's nest to sit on that egg. So they have switched nests and the chicks have no clue which one is their mother, LOL. Here they are!

This is Aimee, before we realized that she had too many chicks under her:

Here, they are still in their proper nests with the temporary barrier:

Penny is now on the right, having realized that Aimee still had one egg not hatched:

Here are most of the chicks--DH tried to get Penny to get off and poop so he removed some of the babies. Look at the striped one! They don't seem to care which mama they are under and the mamas are being very peaceful co-broodies.

So, the score is: There are six hatched, last one pipped under Penny. And except for Shadow's lavender Coch'anvers, I have no idea which chicks belong to which hen, LOL.

look at you go!! Got some more of them normal looking milles too I see... sure look good.

TODAY WAS PICTURE DAY HERE TOO....FINALLY!!

Will get back in this evening and go threw them all. Once I get a second I'll start reposting new pics of all the colors here.

Speckledhen: Those pics are ADOREABLE of your broodies and their babies!

Thank you! Your picture is really sweet, too. Mine are sitting side by side, touching, right now, all babies and the pipped egg underneath them. They are really being co-parents with this batch. It's really amazing to watch. I just wish that last egg would hurry up and hatch so that they would really leave the nest for longer and poop.

Are these girls or boys? They are 3 and a half weeks. The silver quail I'm sure is a girl, I only ask as by 3 weeks, my roo Meep had a wide deep pink comb already even though he was much smaller and slower to feather than these. :)

OMG Cyn those pictures are just too precious! Aimee and Penny look so in the broody element, I know you are proud of those two little munchkins.

JJ...muhahahahahahahaha *cackling madly* Look at the new members of the Hairy Legged Horde my new Coch'anvers are going to take over Virginia and soon all bantams in that State will be pajama wearing diva ninja. Then we take over the Country! muahahahahahahahaha

ha, just noticed we broke 3000 post and 50,000 views already on this thread...way to go !!

Bantam, in all honesty, they are too young to tell for certian. As a general guess, they all mostly look like girls to me. Give 'em a few more weeks and we'll be able to tell a little better. Yes on the solid colored ones, the main thing to look for is a widening comb base. If you start seeing that, it's pretty safe to call them boys.
