This all helps because I have one more chick (golden lakenvelder) coming in a week or so and I didn't want to raise her alone, so I was thinking I will add a dark brown egg layer to my order to raise her with. But she is coming in as a part of a feed store order from one of the big hatcheries and it sounds like if I want a good drk brown egg layer, I need to go to a private breeder whether it's Welsummer or Marans. My problem is all I really want is one good pullet and I don't know of any private breeders close in my area where I could just go and pick one up. I will probably just hold off on it and get my existing new little flock started.
