Dark Egg Breeds Thread

he looks healthy and beautiful and well on his way. I have 3 three roosters that are almost 2 1/2 years now and they kept filling out past their 1st birthday. They got bigger and better looking as they passed their 1st year.

I worship Friday , ohoooo Friday

Have you sent any in to the eggs shows? You should. There are not that many eggs representing the other varieties I think. The majority of entries I think are BC eggs. You can rake in some blue ribbons in the splash division. Actually, I wonder if there is a splash division.

I need to check and see if there is an official splash division.

Anyway, there is an egg show coming up in a couple weeks in Arkansas at the HOTOPA show on November 6th.

And I think Ohio National show is coming up on Nov 13th and 14th but I'm not clear on whether there will an egg show sponsored there.

Thank you drom!

I have thought about the egg shows but I guess until I got these eggs I didn't think they would be good enough. I just love these birds (my Marans) regardless of every fault or imperfection.

Can't wait for the peeping in the bator to turn into pipping.........some 2nd generation babies from my very dark blue copper roo Bill (you remember Bill don't you drom?) and some culled Davis hens from last year are in there. Bill really gave his babies some nice qualities and egg color so I can hardly wait to see this generation mature, hoping they will get high gloss qualities for the egg like my Davis gals. Bill is over a 1.5 years old now and is the best rooster daddy and protector I have. He is very attentive to his ladies and won't leave anything or anyone unchecked. He is a very busy man running here and there rounding up stray hens that have wondered to far from him, he is more than happy to run back down to the barn to investigate when he hears one of his gals start the egg song were he starts in singing too. I wish I had access to video and the ability to upload so I could share this heartwarming rooster and his antics. The poor boy never gets any rest tending to his flock.

As always Thank you for sharing your beauties. He looks very happy and healthy as drom stated. I can't wait to see him when he is over a year old. I bet he chunks up bigtime.

Got any new photos of your girls? You know I love those girls!

Morning Pink My head hurts like I attended the BBB thing... Not... (just stress)...

Hanging on by the knot at the end of the rope ya know..

Hey Berk...(ditto on your comment above)... and ....... If I in any way made your stay on the other thread uncomfortable... It isn't intended etc... Love you guys!! I don't remember doing a number on a wheaton but who knows.. The thread moves fast... One cannot truely give a critique that works in a breeding flock without the hens... Remember that... I don't know what was said but if I an in any way am responsible for hurt feelings.. you have my deepest apology.

Good morning Drom!!! Sorry about the confusing post a few pages back... My head isn't as clear as it should be...I should send myself to my room... (but there is a computer in there too!!!) lol

Geebs, I'm one of the quiet/silent followers of this thread......I've been listening and learning.
But wanted to jump in and "say hey".
We're ALL in this together........'chicken people/lovers' have lives that include other things besides chickens (jobs, extended family, friends, all kinds of experiences), EVERYTHING that effects you, affects your chickens.
My animals (horses, dogs, cats, chickens) seem to know when I hurt, ...........they're relaxed and move freely when I do.
We're with you.
Take care.

funny thing was i never got to mad of remarks about any birds ythat i posted on other thred , i did get a truthful and helpful bad comment from one guy when i posted a roo that the comb was messed up and looked like to them was a carnation comb but i never got any comments to me that were bad from u or anyone one the fact is people help out alot there , i liked the comment about the standard was or is for the lighter colored wheaten hens and to cull the darker ones i had .... loved the advice and very helpful to me , i know little about chickens ( only 4 years) and wheaten marans for the past 2 years .....some of the tone thats directed to others i cant stand .......... i like the way bev davis teaches ,and will listen to you and never spells things out to sound condecending and i wish some of the others would learn
