Is there much variation in egg color with the Barnie hens like the Marans? Do you select your breeding stock for their egg color with your hens? Or do they all lay a similar egg color?

Rustywoman, wonderful pictures u posted do u know what color marans were you posted that kind of like wheaten? i love the darker color birds , i am hatching and raising a few that are darker than outhers i have but like in the pictures you posted from france i assume , the darker makes the cream under part darker and i dont like that .....
i know zero about genetics but i would love to tweek the colors just dont know what to look for in a rooster color pattern ...i think the davis roo over the presley hens is turning out some darker hens just like u posted ... mabe im getting closer to france lol lol only one step closer from west virginia and a long way to go.... thanks for the pic,s of wheaten they are my favorite and least Controversial over lineage lol lol yes i used spell checker

Very nice birds BrkSpgs. I have to say, I think I like the light, creamy color ones the best. I think maybe because of the contrast with their red hackles. The wheaten hens are so pretty. You know of course who can probably tell you exactly why in genetic terms some are darker all over is Blackdotte. I'm sure he would know.

I wish I could help you out but the market sellers spoke little english and I speak no french.

I was just told that they were the common ones there. What about the red/brown? Is that a breed because for some reason it is ringing a bell.

They also had blue and salmon Marans according to an eagle eye in the old locked Marans thread.

I like the lighter Wheaten too Drom

Well, it looked like there were columbian birds in there as well. Were they Marans too?? I think they are very rare, even over there, but I was wondering when I saw them in those pics.

Ah, ok. I think someone over here actually does work on Columbians. I can't recall who it is though.

Well, I want to go to France.
