My Barnies are not prolific layers at all. With my Wellies I get approx. 3-4 eggs per week per hen.

Sorry to everyone that has seen this photo (it was posted over at the other place

) but I just have to share it with drom and you all. These are coming from 2 of my Splash Marans. I couldn't believe it when I caught them both lay these last week. I have never got egg color like this from a Splash...ever! Good thing the ground wasn't to far cause I think I fell over.

Thank you! I am most amazed at their color......I have been breeding Splash Copper, Blue Copper and Black Copper now (mostly focus on Blue Coppers) for a while now and have never got that color from a Splash. I used to complain and whine but I think I have to stop that now.

Ok Kansas, I found a photo of 2 of the BR x Marans eggs. Her eggs are on the right side of the photo in what would be the egg carton lid.
From left to right: first egg is a Welsummer egg (who had some funky thing going on and laid it with those white speckles) and the second and third eggs are the BRxMarans.
Sorry this is not the best photo.

Thanks, Pinkchick! Really, I appreciate you finding those for me. I'd be very pleased if my girls layed anything close to that. Just hope they are better layers than yours, but we'll have to wait awhile to find out.

I think I have to hold on to those. Ya, know something......I am very tired of pinching myself everytime I walk by them! You would think because they are right there and I can touch them and feel them that I would believe it....but I just can't yet. Think I'm going to dedicate a wall in the livingroom for my "Egg of Fame" photo gallery. DH will appreciate that like you can't imagine.

If you run over to the chicken behaviors and egglaying area there is a contest for extreme speckled eggs, I just posted a photo of that Welsummer egg and it has a BR x Marans egg in it but the photo was taken outside in better light. You may find that photo more accurate on color.

Have you sent any in to the eggs shows? You should. There are not that many eggs representing the other varieties I think. The majority of entries I think are BC eggs. You can rake in some blue ribbons in the splash division. Actually, I wonder if there is a splash division.

I need to check and see if there is an official splash division.

Anyway, there is an egg show coming up in a couple weeks in Arkansas at the HOTOPA show on November 6th.

And I think Ohio National show is coming up on Nov 13th and 14th but I'm not clear on whether there will an egg show sponsored there.

this was the best i could do this summer out of around 25 roo hatched from 4 origonal birds,,,,,,,, a davis roo and hen and,,,,,,,,,,, 2 budy hennery hens (presley lines)

he is still young less than 9 months and will fill in more i think
the pictures are bad ,,,, but he has a nice cinnamon triangle (hard 2 c here)
and i liked the comb better and his tail set but who knows ,,,,, thats why i am posting in this thred ..... this thred is for people getting there thoughts across with out tude , but still gets the point across.....I have a cheesey web site but I sell only extras at tractor supply chicken stocks mainly .but I am not in this full time its more like a old guy who thinks he is a kid with a lemonade stand but I will try to better the wheaten marans or at least not make them worse ,,, take care all ,,,,,
