LOL! Berk, I love that photo of your rooster, good golly you must be fast with the camera. Thanks for the compliment on the eggs. I am still pinching myself.
Love the wooded area where you live Berk......I live in a logging community and folks around here log properties until they are baron waste lands. So sad. We have planted over 75 trees on our property since we bought it and plan to just keep adding more every year. We are overloaded with the weed tree Alder.......I would like to see more evergreens. When they developed the home sites here in my home owners assocation.........they logged every thing that was Western Hemlock (BEAUTIFUL TREES), Doug Fir, Pines and Cedar, leaving us with an abundance of Maple and of course the every hardy Alder. A neighbor of mine makes hardwood T & G flooring out of the Alder. Man that is the best I have ever seen one of those trees look, makes beautiful flooring.
Hope you have yourself a very nice time Berk!

Pink, yep too bad they hacked down all the old growth by you.. You just can not get it back once it is gone. I am in a logging area too. Matter of fact I do a little eco selective cutting my self, and own a small saw mill to make timbers and beams for timber framing/ log building projects.. The "big cut" for us was around 1900 when the took all the virgin white pine.. We have a few left with some eastern hemlock... Our forest is managed well with some large old growth left in it.. We canoe a 30,000 acer tract of virgin land.. Yep pine and hemlocks that 5 people can barley get their arms around.. (That is a big tree for east of the Mississippi.)

LOVE those pictures, Berk. Hey, you can come play carpenter at my place any time!

I have so much timber and so many trees around here ..... Oh, good grief, I am now covered in leaves! Maybe I should just collect them, bag them, and use them as bedding!

i wish i knew more tree types but i dont ,,,, we are on top of a hil mountain top that face the cacapon state park in berkeleysprings west virginia on a 6 acre lot my elderly dad bought in the 1970 for next to nothing when i was ten years old and the trees have not grown a inch since then ,every year the leaves drop off the tres and i think we have more top soil and then spring comes and its nothing , no soil, no dirt , and the leaves compress to nothing ,,, mostly all the trees are less than 20 inches
and i think its because of all rocks or shale and no dirt....about 4 years ago i went to the middle of the woods and cut down a area about 2000 sq ft and planted alot of apple, pear, peach ,yellow raspberries grapes all kinds of things and put in a 8ft fenceto keep the deer out but every crow ,squreel ,possun, and the dry weather , i dont get much fruit ,yellow raspberries are the best here because anamils dont eat them , i have had great luck with them they are called "Ann"and fruit 2 times a year..
the lower valley in this area is apple country , home of "white house apple sause" ... a local big time apple factory ....so thats kinda my story ,,,,o also i know nothing about goats ,cows,or horses or alot about farming ... but i did grow up hunting and fishing (bow hunting only ) and love the barbcue.... i would love to come visit kathy but i am afraid to fly ,,, but i would love to see the west ,,, i just got back from a park in Ny cant remember what it was called ,,,,began with the letter L known as grand canyon of the east
i like the chair

Ok You guys may be able to tell me something.
My cuckoo Maran doesn;t lay Dark eggs!!!!!! When I got her the eggs were kind of coffee coloured but they have gotten lighter as the time has gone on. Now they are NO different to my RIR/PRs eggs. -

Should I have fed her something different than Layers or do some Marans just lay normal boring old eggs???
I love My Gerty - but sometimes I wonder what is wrong with her??? She even sits on Mice and broods them like baby chicks and pecks me if I chase them!!!! She is a daft old girl.

Anyhow just wanted to know if I was doing something wrong???? She never did lay really dark eggs. - I have a Cream Legbar roo that I want to put to her so her chicks lay green eggs but if her eggs are no different to the others I don;t think it will work????
