this baby came from my first ever batch of hatched chicks, out of the smallest pink egg i was sent. i know she is half salmon faverolle, but the male sire could be anything from black/white cochin to black copper maran.
she is very faverolle-heavy though, her momma did the heavy lifting. however, even as a mix, she is presenting many male-like characteristics of a full-blooded faverolle, such as dark primaries, dark chest, dark legs and back, as well as tail. you can see that the feathers on her neck so far are a lighter cream color than the black and brown around it.
i feel like her crown would be quite large for a pullet her size and age. she is about three weeks old now, and my suspicions are growing stronger.
she must be a cockerel with these features, right? i’ve seen many faverolles posted on here that are female with a large amount of black, but something in me tells me this baby is a male.
without mentioning “it’s a baby come back in 4 weeks” what is your opinion?
