Update: I just moistened the membrane again and removed some more shell from the air cell. I looks like the blood has been soaked up since I noticed the duckling tore some of the membrane and I didn't see any blood. Did see yawning. He seems to be getting stronger.
That's how I do mine.You are doing fine. I would lubricate the membrane and just give it more time. If the bill is free, it can breathe. It will start wiggling and struggling when it is ready to come out, then you may have to remove a little more shell, toward your pencil line, in all directions. But I'd just give it a little more time now.
