Thanks for being here guys. This has been a unique experience for sure. I say "has been" lightly. I have 8 in the brooder and 2 in the incubator so I suppose it isn't over yet. My kids let me take a nap......which I desperately needed. I really miss having tiny kids, but at times like this, I am really glad my youngest is about to turn 7!!!!

Of my babies, the coloring looks closest to my rooster on the ones from my RIR. Can't wait to watch them grow. So yes, my little roo will definitely live on....through all of these little ones.

He was such an awesome little guy, I think he would have been one of those good daddy type roosters.

We are still with you shellie........I know you are getting pretty bummed out about them by now, but you could still get babies. I really hope you do.

Is anyone else gonna post pics of their new wee ones? Looking forward to seeing some.

Well I moved the whole brooder and set it up with food, water and the heat lamp... and a few little toys...

And now I don't hear any chirping and no pips either... wth...

Yeah but reading all these posts about having to help babies out, I'm getting worried they might be drowning or something. I don't want them to die.
How did you go about assisting a hatch? Did you remove the egg from the bator and peel some shell off or what? I'm not going to do it unless I have too, but I want to be prepared!

Most of mine pipped and then made no progress so I used tweezers to peel away bits of shell. However, when I had waited forever and a few weren't pipping I actually candled them to find the air cell and broke the shell myself. I am glad I did, because they were stuck so tight they couldn't reach the shell to break it. I used a screwdriver and put it against the shell and tapped it gently to avoid hurting them. I was a nervous wreck the whole time too!!!! Good luck!!!!

Oh, and I just held the egg in my hand, wrapped in a warm, wet, cloth and kept warm water handy.
