Never ran into a stinker before and this is my 10th hatch.- I am on day 11 and smelled something in incubator, sniffed all the eggs found the one. candled it, no veins.

hey guys my first 8 hatched without a hitch chicks running like two year olds. My second not so much. which brings me to my question, Do all chicks hatch with a stringy type cord connected to the egg because the wyandotte I hatched I didn't notice it. So far three marans hatched an had this cord

i think so because one of my quail hatched like that too. it dried up in a day tho and fell off

I did add the save a chick to the water this morning after the first of the three hatched. So far that the only one to drink on its own. Since this morning its is able to now walk around, Keeping my fingers crossed for the other two and the other seventeen to hatch. Thanks for the replies. Good out there

Not all chicks, but some do. My barred rock hatched with the stringy thing. Once it dried up it fell off. It's where they were connected to the yolk. As long as there's not still unabsorbed yolk you can cut it off, if they're struggling to walk dragging the egg shell. Don't pull on it because you can damage them.
