At least I figured out one of my barred rocks is a hen and the other is a rooster by looking up the question on this page. I had already guessed one was a boy because of his attitude...

Sadly It died...I tried to help, but nothing was working. Man I feel terribleGive it some Nutri-Drench.
Don't. Sometimes chicks die. We lost two just a couple of days ago. Failure to thrive. It's a genetic thing and happens in the wild all the time. You did nothing wrong!Sadly It died...I tried to help, but nothing was working. Man I feel terrible
Yes I know, I think it had an egg yolk infection. I just feel for her, ya know.Don't. Sometimes chicks die. We lost two just a couple of days ago. Failure to thrive. It's a genetic thing and happens in the wild all the time. You did nothing wrong!
Yay! Congratulations! The patience did pay off! The silkies were just a bit late at hatching, that’s completely normal. Sorry about the other chick that passed Could you take some photos of the chicks later once the last one has hatched? We all love chicks!UPDATE... My silkie egg just hatched and another one is finally pipping. I will be putting a dab of iodine on navel stumps when they come out of the incubator for now on though. I have a bright yellow chick. Not sure if I see spots or if it is an all white biddy, I am just happy at the moment I have another chick. I WILL be putting a dab of iodine on a Qtip and putting it on the naval stump when they come out of the brooder for now on (just like we do for horses, I don't know why I didn't think to do it)..
I think you should move your silkie chick with your barred rock in the brooder. Then wait for the other chicks to hatch, then move them.Should I leave the silkie baby in the incubator with the other eggs that are pipping or get and put with my barred rock? It is real active and already looking for food!!!
