Day 20

Take a pair of tweezers and break off little bits of shell, working your way around the egg, as the chick would zip normally. Be careful not to damage the inner membrane (covering the chick) at this stage. Once you've got a bit cleared, take a wet Q-tip and wipe the inner membrane. Check for any visible, active blood vessels. If you can see any active vessels in the membrane the chick needs more time, so wrap the chick in some damp paper towels to help keep the membrane from drying out and leave it for another 2 hours before continuing. Before I let the chick out I clear the shell covering the chick's belly area and check the membrane there for signs of blood or yolk as well. I nearly got caught out once when the rest of the membrane was clear and that last bit of vessels hasn't retracted yet. Once that bit is clear you can remove enough of the inner membrane to allow the chick to stretch and free itself. Good luck!

Ok thanks. I zipped around two that was having trouble and in no time they were out. Ten hatched now and seems to be doing will. Two more have piped with little progress for awhile now and two have not piped at all. I don't heat any peeping coming from the un piped eggs either.

It had worked out of the shell more so I misted around it and worked the shell and got it out. The inside of the shell and the chick were covered in brown goo, I would almost call it poo I have left it alone and the bent leg came out but it is still on its side chirping. I did not want to put it in shock by cleaning it. I just don't know if it's gonna make it.

Congratulations and good luck with the other 2!

How is it doing now?

It was too weak and died. I tried sugar water but I knew it was not strong. It still had a dried up cord attached. I just let it go on it's own ans I could not think of doing the deed. I can process older birds but chicks are another story. But thanks for your help and the next time could be better.

My last one that hatched I had to help him out. He's small and slightly different colour then the other ones. Just put him in the brooder with the other ones and I think he's goin get picked on. Hope he survives. It's hard killing the little ones even if your doing it a favor, much easier to do it for food.
