Day 25. Help!

i don't think i would try and feed it yet. sugar water is ok . i hope it gets dried off and stronger . it's been a momentous hatching for both of you...
take care.

Thanks Esther. It has been far from the fluffy outcome I expected, and goodness knows I read loads in advance. With even more luck it will get to its feet x

Congratulations!! I hope he gets his streinght back. Best of luck!!
Thank you

i was advised to give mine something to cuddle up to, a teddy or a string mop head. it might help since it will be on it's own.
is it drying out and fluffing up?

once it is standing i was told to tap on chick crumbs with the red cap of a biro. not sure how necessary the red biro is but certainly the mum shows them and they watch and copy.

Hi Esther. I just checked it again. It feels dry, but it doesn`t look fluffy. It is like the down has been dried with a lot of hair gel. Saying that, the inner membrane has now gone. It definately seems stronger now. Cheeping more, but still on its side. I have been making beds out of kitchen roll. As it is a pekin bantam, it is tiny. I would loose it in a mop. I can cut some lovely fluffy dog blanket for it to lie on.

I will find a red pen top for when it can stand. Fingers crossed it will. Maybe the electric hen will get some use soon!

glad it seems stronger. it can take them a while after a normal hatch to get up and running. has it got a name yet? i will be so sad if it doesn't pull through.

pekins are such sweet chickens. we have 2. did have more, a fox got them 3 weeks ago. still miffed about that. my daughter's lemon cuckoo pekin was taken. it was so tame, it followed her about....knew she would find it special treats. anyway, that is why we are hatching now, sigh.

take care.

How sad for your daughter and her special chicken. I hope you get an extra special one from her when you have your next hatch. Are they lemon cuckoo`s? Mine was a mixed coloured buy. I was hoping for a black one as my favourite. and only. black bantam died this year.

No name for the chick yet. I don`t want to tempt fate. I keep calling it he. That would be our luck.I can`t keep roosters where we live.
