Day 27 No Progress Under Broody Call

When did you candle last ? 28 is just a number it could be 27-30 hopefully you’ll get a chance to candle that will tell you if any are internally pipped listen to the egg because you can hear peeping too. These are your pets right?

Yesterday so day 27 just to check for internal pipping. Yes they are pets. I might see if I can get a sneaky candle in today then. Haven't managed to listen to the eggs yet but you would only hear cheeping once they are in the air sacs, right? I got my two girls from a breeder and while the broody is the more relaxed of the two she's still a little wary as I think in her previous life she wasn't bonded to humans, so I'm trying not to stress her out too much. This is only her first breeding season!

When did you begin counting? Was she totally committed to setting when you began counting?
I've had Hens on nests and thought they were suppose to hatch and it took up to another 5 days or longer before they hatched.
I have a Hen due soon although I don't know exactly when.

I began counting the first day I saw them sat on the whole day. The current broody sat on infertiles first before this current clutch was laid. There was me watching and waiting for her to want to sit (apparently 23 is the magic number!) and her sister decided she wanted a turn. She only sat for a day before getting bored and the previous and current broody took back over. So I'm counting that first day but it was still a bit of a muddle with a period they went cool and I thought we had lost them! Perhaps if you don't count that day it's day 27 now.

5 days?! :barnie I don't think my nerves would take that!

That’s the thing if you decide to candle wait till she goes out. Then you can get a good look. I have a Muscovy sitting due to hatch around the 20th. I put it in the calendar when mine commit so I can kind of know when to expect ducklings
I'll see what I can do! Good luck with your scovies!

I'm thinking you began counting too soon.
Give it a few more days and don't touch the eggs anymore because the Hen provides the proper temp and humidity to hatch them.

I have no problems touching the eggs when my broody leaves her nest and they hatch fine. Only way to know if you have internal pips if your interested. I am a hands on person and have never had any problems with candling at the end to see what's going on. I have been doing this since 2004. Up to you though leave them alone and wait or see what's going on in there an wait lol

Okay will do! Good timing I was just getting the kids prepped so I could go out for a candling! Might it be worth doing one last candle today for my old schedule and then if there's no internal pip just throwing my expectations out the window and leaving them completely alone? I suppose there's not much I could do anyway I just want to know! Tell me off please! I don't want to cause any unnecessary risk.
