Day 4 On Coop Project: A Woman's Adventure

Settin'_Pretty :

Now that you have experience in the construction trade it's time to take all those old windows and build a small greenhouse / cold frame to grow and provide fresh greens for your new girls.
Get busy, you're burning daylight!
;O)

^^^^^^ Easy there - she needs to get her own tools first

Not necessarily - it's taken a while, but DH and I share tools all the time now. We trained ourselves to always put it back where we decided it should go. And it works! We do have multiples of everything except the table saw and the drill press, they don't move well anyway.

And the greenhouse is a great idea! Or an art studio.......

Art studio? Hmm... you should consider keeping those windows, painting them and selling them. You could make a fortune!

Wow! A Greenhouse & Art Studio?! Phew........don't know if I have it in me to go that far. However, now that I have a coop I sure have been eying some of the chicken tractor plans! So funny, all this construction for a nice flock, and still no chickens, LOL! I'm chickenless!

Ok, for those of you who have been following my posts, I have a question. Sorry in advance; I know it is OT but I wasn't sure what thread this belonged in.

Would you or do you sell your chickens to newbie/novice owners? I emailed a lady who was selling part of her BO flock (6 hens and a roo). I told her that I needed to complete my coop so they would be safe and asked her to hold them for me while that was being done. She agreed and said they would be ready when I was. During the last week I have emailed her several times with updates on the coop. I mentioned that I was a new owner and asked her questions about her flock. The questions were things like: Have they had any vaccinations? What are you feeding them (I didn't want to change their diet drastically)? What are their personalities and quirks? Ever since the email where I mentioned I was a new owner, I have not heard back from her. She doesn't answer my emails and now that the coop is finished, I have tried to call. She won't return my calls either. I understand that folks have their lives. I just would think that a quick email saying "Hey, sorry I have been busy." would be appropriate. I was never rude in my emails. Could I have put her off by being a new/novice owner? Should I continue to try to contact her or start looking for a flock elsewhere? At this point I am pretty frustrated and confused. Any input would be greatly apprectiated!

I would sell to a newbie. If I was that concerned for my girls future home I would be helpful in getting you set up properly and give you more advise than you asked for.
That being said, I would recommend you start with chicks (or even eggs) and get the whole experience of this chicken thing. It is very rewarding, in my opinion, to start from the ground up.
Good Luck and welcome to this addiction.

perhaps she is on vacation?

I would be more comfortable parting with my flock if the new owner asked me those sorts of Q's
